Top Marks to the Tourist Police.

We can only hope that these scum-bags are locked-up in some stinking hell hole and then booted out with a "never to return" notification on their Immigration records.

They may have stuffed up their own countries, we don't need them doing the same in Thailand, in particular in CNX.

Started outside Spicys? Why does that not surprise me! Anyway I agree, we dont need this happening here.... or anywhere for that matter

I hope they are deported and banned from re-entry.

I thought this type usually confined their holidays to Pattaya. Doesn't bode well for Chiang Mai.

The 4 guys under arrest appear to me to be U.S. soldiers; possibly U.S. Marines. Does anyone else share that view?

I have seen that tourist policeman multiple times over the years including at an eviction in my moobaan. I believe he is the top dog of the tourist police.

I hope they deport these low life's right away. Armed with knives and machetes on the streets of C.M? Outta here!

I think I would act pretty angrily if a middle-aged farang in uniform started telling me in Thailand what I can and can't do.

What qualifications and training do you need to have in order to wear one of those uniforms?

I know spicey stays open late, but it's broad daylight in that photo.

Ummmm I would tend to err on the side of caution no matter who is in the Tourist Police uniform, or are you just against any form of authority? These 'farangs' who wear the uniform actually do a damn good job, and more often than not pull stupid drunk idiots out of the gutter and out of troubles way.

Maybe one day you'll change your tune should you be the one in need of their assistance.

There is NO excuse to carry knives or machettes as a form of self defence. As has been in the past with Spiceys..... if you go looking for trouble then you will find it, or it will find you.

You can act as angrily as you want but I assure you you want Laurie on your side if you find yourself in a dodgy situation he speaks fluent thai is HIGHLY RESPECTED within the Chiang Mai Police force and he is a fair decent bloke (he is Australian though so we have to excuse him for that)

He has been with the TPD for more than 7 years and has just as much experience and training that any thai policeman on the force.

Instead of getting angry for no reason, you would be asking for his help especially if you find yourself getting angry at the wrong person just as these thugs have done.

He will now help these guys with translation and let them know what is in store for them.

I don't want to get into a fight but I don't respect the Royal Thai police nor the farang wannabes who hang on to their tails. If you respect them, fine.

Do you think it would be reasonable for them to first defend themselves before passing judgement?

You sound very much like Thai justice to me. thumbsup.gif

You can be in front of a bank at midnight but doesn't mean you just came out of the bank.

If this is a weapon and it will be used as evidence, why is he holding it in the face of one of the suspects?

None of us know the specifics of the case nor the things that led up to the detention of these guys and as for it being light outside Spicy is well known for closing when the sun comes up so that could be the reason.

Either way I am sure those that are visiting Thailand appreciate the Farang Tourist Volunteers since in a foreign country where the cops dont speak much english can be intimidating and scary for those visitors.

in the pic it looks like the cop is asking the thai guy on the end why he was carrying a machete....I haven't seen too many farangs out tooled up with one have you?

Where would those guys carry machetes, wearing vests and shorts?

It could be just as likely they picked up the knife from a local vendor/house/attacker as defence from someone else carrying a weapon?!

Thats not the sort of weapon that looks like it would belong to a farang.

barely. just look at their calves. the easiest way to differentiate a athletic is by the calf.
