I was in Mae Sai to do get my 90 days stamp today-when I came in one of the old guys-he speak a litle english was at work.He hardly looked at the form and copy of passport looked in the computer and gave me my stamp and then told me: you dont need that any more-in and out in 3-4 min.

Thats good news that we dont need all that copy and fill out forms any more.

Have a good evening and take care of your self and each other.

I've been to a bunch of different immigration offices and border crossings in Thailand over the years....I've never found an easier or better overall experience than Mae Sai.

Yet another good thing about living in Chiang Rai is how very easy it is to deal with reporting, visa runs, leaving and re entry etc. About an hour or so to Mae Sai, a few minutes and you're done. I remember all too well the old days in Bangkok having to spend all day on a bus to go to the Cambodia border...what a hassle that was and if I remember correctly it was a few thousand baht.

Also mae sai can be an interesting little border town to spend the night. I have noticed that at night it really is a different place as most of the day trippers and tour groups and shop til you drop bunch leaves. I've had several pleasant overnights in mae sai. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but compared to other border towns it seems to work pretty well.

The Mae Sai Immigrations office is great. Even better is that come September, some of the immigrations services will be made available in Chiang Rai. No more need to go all the way to Mae Sai.

Toybits, thats right-but some how I like the trip to mae Sai...following the different new buildings and so.There is always new things to see on the way up there-and then we have family in Mae sai so we make a nice day of it.

Did the Immigration officer keep the paperwork you presented? When I attended in June he only asked for my passport and told me to keep all the photocopies I had and the 90 reporting form.

I just mailed in my 90 day report so I will be interested to see what comes back in the mail.

I got my 90 day report back in the mail and there were some changes. First it is a new printed form and there is now a barcode in the upper righthand corner.

A quick turnaround indeed. Hopefuly I will get to do that process one day :)
