I'm flying out of BKK on 23rd of this month at 23:30. I'm spending a couple of days in Bangkok but obviously I'm going to have to check out around midday. What I need is a simple room for a few hours so I've got somewhere for my bags and I can have a shower before leaving for the airport. I know there are some near the airport but they're fairly expensive as they are near the airport. I don't really need it to be close as I'd have to travel from the Eastin Hotel in Makksan anyway if the flight was earlier. I suppose I could book somewhere cheap for the night and not sleep there but I just thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas.

Most hotels I have stayed at will let you leave your bags with the concierge and take a shower and change in their gym / pool area free of charge when I have had a late flight. Might be worth asking them.

Let's try this over in the airport forum. I'm pretty sure I've seen this topic posted there before. Also, do a search on:

day room bangkok suvarnabhumi airport

Quite a bit comes up.

Lots of hotels & guesthouses but not all will offer you a room on a by hour tariff, others will allow you to check out late, Starwood hotels will give you a 4pm check out & let you keep your bags with the concierge until departure free of charge if you are an SPG member & they're not fully booked. Ask who you're staying with if they'll let you check out late for a nominal charge. Failing that some airlines have city check in facilities if you're flying on one of them then you could utilise that early in the day, save you having to lug your bags about town for half a day.

Thanks for that. I wasn't sure where to put it. I only avoided the airport forum as I didn't need to be close to the airport but I'm sure I'll still get help. It's one thing you can always rely on with TV.

We could always move it back if you want, but let's try it here and see what happens. You're flight is at 23:30. You'll need to be at the airport no later than about 20:30. Taking into consideration travel time, you'll be leaving your hotel at the latest around 20:00, earlier if you are further away.

Unfortunately, you probably can't check in much earlier. That's a pain. I did a quick search on Agoda and found hotels nearby for as little as 500B or so. With free shuttle service.

You could always leave your luggage in left luggage for a while. Also, you can use the shower rooms provided by Louis Tavern Day Rooms which is airside concourse G - price about bt350 (from memory), towel, soap, toothbrush and paste provided.

Most likely the Eastin will sell you a late check-out for maybe 1000 baht, that beats a lot of messing around. Even if you had to pay a full night there it would hardly bankrupt you.

That would be the most logical, efficient and possibly economic solution. Ask the current hotel for a late check out. If their normal check-out is noon, they will probably suggest 2PM latest with no extra charge. I have sometimes got away with 4PM for free but you may need to schmooze a bit. If they want to tag-on a half-day charge to stay until 6PM, I would accept that. Beats double-shuffle with trains and taxis although most of the budget hotels near Suvarnabhumi will have a complimentary shuttle TOO the airport.

For midnight flights I normally stay in my hotel in town and pay the half day charge for late check out. It frees up the day to do shopping or whatever. It takes the hassle out of what to do with my bags plus allows me to freshen up before the flight. I can then head off to the airport at 8 or 9 pm feeling a lot less stressed. I also online check in for the flight which allows a quick bag drop once I get to the airport.

Thanks for all the help.

I got the wife to phone the Eastin and they want 1500 baht for an extension until 16:00 which should be OK as it's about 45 mins to Suvarnabhumi. I don't know if that includes tax. I think that's a bit much but it's certainly easier than moving hotels. My only problem is that my wife's daughter who's 18 will be with us. We've decided to just check if it's OK if she uses the shower as well. I don't think it will be a problem but if it is then there are small hotels nearby that we can try which are easy to walk to even with my case.

I'm the only one flying by the way and wife and daughter are going back to Mahasarakham by bus so have one bag between them. I would fly them to Khon Kaen but the price is a lot more than it was when I flew in December last year which was expensive anyway. It's a pity Air Asia don't fly to Khon Kaen as they're much cheaper.

I always check in online as well. I'm always amazed at all the people standing in line to check in while I sometimes have to wait for one or two people in front of me.

^ Agoda are normally cheaper than the hotel's website. I once walked in to the Hilton at Heathrow and the nice lady at reception actually told me to go and book a room online and it would be half the price, which it was!
