thaitim Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I have a Mitsubishi Triton 2.5 diesel. It's just over 5 years old & the engine has started to run really rough, very erratic acceleration. I can accelerate up to 2,000rpm but above that it just wont accelerate any more. It feels like the engine is being starved of fuel. I think it's the fuel pump or the injectors, & the diesel isn't being injected properly. On top of the fuel pump there's a plunger that you push down & it expels the air form the system. I can push down on it 8, 9, 10 times & it's still not enough. Am I right in thinking it should only be a couple of times? Unfortunately I'm not working at the moment, so trying to fix it as cheaply as possible. Anyone have any idea what the problem might be? Cheers for the help guys. Paul.
mogandave Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Yeah, first thing to try is changing the filter. It's cheap and easy and works a lot of the time. Before you change the filter, I would drain the existing filter, and see if you have water. If you do, drain, fire-up the engine and drain it again. If you still have water, repeat the process until you get clean fuel from the old filter. Once you get clear, clean fuel from the old filter, remove and install the new filter. I wish I was out of work, good luck! 1
thaitim Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 Thanks mogandave & guzzi850m2 I'll try that. Hope that's all it is As for being out of work, it was nice to have free time at first, but now I need work. Anyway thanks guys. Paul.

BSJ Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Do the filter thing. The plunger should firm up once there is fuel pressure.
