Actually got it on sale locally for US$439.00 - 14,200 baht.

Did you stop to think? If you want to interface with server, you need Windows. Google Android is lost. Had to ditch a Kindle Fire.

I think it's too soon to kiss Windows goodbye for tablets. Android had a big lead and will surely keep it, but for those who want to use it at the office in business with a Windows enterprise, it will be Windows.

This little tablet already has the full blown Windows 8 + Office on it, and there is no good equivalent for Office available for Android. Correct me if I'm wrong about that. I should have said I don't know of one.

In any event, it can accept existing files for powerpoint or excel or word or whatever, or it can create them.

Well, I hate windows 8. Sticking to the windows 7 at the moment. However, you got yourself a nice deal for X86 tablet. You bought it in Thailand or from your homecountry?

OK, suppose your enterprise uses something like Citrix to allow you to tunnel into your account on Server. Suppose you need to access your files from a Starbucks or a motel. Android ain't gonna get it. This will.

I agree. I'm in full learning mode for 8. It's not that bad but we mostly resist change. With the manual, online help on my desktop, and some YouTube vids, I'm starting to be OK with it. I have it all set up now.

I bought it in the US in Oregon, with no sales tax.

Download Classic shell for win8 and you get the good old start screen back again.

I also think they will release Win8.1 soon with the old start screen.

So you got Office on your tablet, hmm I bought a Dell ultrabook in Singapore with Win8 and no office.

I actually want to learn this win 8 screen. I still do some work for a hospital and some Dr. and Dentist offices and they are getting them. I bought this to keep up.

"Now bundled with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013, staying productive on the go has never been easier. (Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 software needs to be downloaded; activation card included with tablet)" Link

None of these places is where I bought it. I'm just finding ads for you to see.

It's probably the long battery life that sets this tablet apart from the rest of the field but for the money, I think there may be better alternatives currently on the market.

If it's a touchscreen tablet with no keyboard, don't bother with Classic Shell.

The Windows 8 UI is OK for these type of devices - it's just crap on a desktop.

With a full version of Windows 8, and office bundled? I think you could pay danged near that much for the software alone?

Remembering that it needs to be Windows in a version that will work with Server, and it needs Office to work in an enterprise, what would be a much better deal?

Give me a keyboard...I put my time in to learn

The Asus VivoTab ME400 is, to all intents and purposes, a low-end laptop inside a tablet shell. But it seems that the main attraction for you with this model is that it runs the full Win 8 version. I believe that your Asus has an intel Atom processor which isn't as powerful as the intel core series, but if you don't mind a slight delay in having your commands executed, it will suit most needs,

If Office is important to you, you will then need to buy the keyboard cover. Unfortunately this keyboard extra isn't the best fit for this model tablet.

What would be a better and cheaper option in my opinion?

A standard laptop with a more potent processor to run the full version of Win 8, Microsoft Office and any software that needs that extra grunt, such as photo editing software.

I have that, but with Win 7 Ultimate. Also, my main squeeze computer is a powerful desktop with 3x 1 gig hdd's, etc.

We're talking about a very portable tablet which by definition can't be all things to all people.

PS I don't notice any delays when executing commands. But then I don't plan on running photoshop on it, either. That's not what it's for.

agree I also hesitate on Android, although it is damn popular in the market.

how does this Asus compare with Microsoft Surface, on hardware and software ?
