Truck Accident Unleashes Free Booze For Locals

By Khaosod Online

BANGKOK: -- Local residents and motorists helped themselves to free beer on Rama II Road in Samut Sakorn province last night after dozens of beer containers were accidentally dropped off from a truck.

Mr. Somchai Rakchat, the truck driver, said he unknowingly dropped several boxes of beer as the truck bumped into a water puddle on the road.

After word of the accident spread, many residents, especially the labourers who were working nearby, rushed to the scene to gather the undamaged beer bottles. Some motorists also parked their cars and joined the frenzy, causing much traffic.

Almost no one at the scene was worried about shards of broken beer bottles on the ground, nor showed any generosity to help Mr. Somchai who was frantically picking up the fallen cargo as many as he could.

Mr. Somchai, who was still visibly stunned by the incident, said he still did not know how to deal with the beer that people had taken from the truck.

The remaining load of beer would be transported to his client in Surat Thani province, Mr. Somchai said.

The road was later cleared and the traffic resumed a couple of hours after the accident.

Indeed, Thais being public service minded were happy to pick up the bottles and leave Somchai to sweep up the shards of broken bottles.

The second would be simple theft. After the mishap is examined and responsibility placed, I hope Somchai doesn't lose his job or have to pay for all the beer lost.

Taking the beer from the street would theft too, unless the owner/ person in possession permanently abandoned the goods. w00t.gif

"Bumbed into a puddle" ... The story doesn't make any sense!

Looks like Mr. Somchai is different, thought most ran away, so would make no difference normally if on road or truck

I think the story is quite straight forward. Having 'bumped into' a puddle, presumably the hapless Khun Somchait had some difficulties controlling the progression of the vehicle, and shed some of his load. It's Khaosod- you have to read between the Thinglish.

Chokdee!!!

Especially if it's free.

Seriously, even taking the bottles from the road, it is still stealing.

But probably the Thais don't see it that way.

In most places it would be described as theft, or looting.

Not here tho', it's a laugh eh !!

Those who were here during the Lauda Air crash of 1991 won't be surprised.
