Subsidence forces authorities to close roads
The Sunday Nation

CHIANG RAI: -- Subsidence in Chiang Rai's Mae Fa Luang district prompted authorities to seek the provincial governor's permission yesterday to declare the area a "danger zone" and close roads in the area to traffic.

Disaster prevention and mitigation officials inspecting the 100-metre-long half-metre-deep sinkhole in a section of road at Ban Santi Khiri, said continued rainfall and higher ground water could soften the soil and cause further subsidence, making the area dangerous for people and passing vehicles.
