Thai Police Commission Validates Decision to Dismiss Police General Surachate Hakpar
You have to understand how the police system works to understand about BJ and the others. It starts with new recruits. They often have to "buy" their application. Once out on the streets, they are given a target by their immediate manager that they have to bring in each month, that gets handed up the line, everyone has a target except the Chief of Police. Everything the recruit brings in over & above that target, he can keep. If you play this game you get promoted. If you don't play the game then you never get promoted. What this means, is that everyone above the level of new recruit is corrupt. Not most of them, absolutely all of them. As you get promoted and often it gets competitive for roles, you play the game, sometimes you "buy" your new position and if you lose, you keep quiet and everyone's back is watched. BJ isn't playing the game. He has dirt on everyone, they have dirt on him. You can be sure the online gambling thing is true, but they must be holding back something much worse to stop him from spilling everything on those around him. He will have been told to "take his medicine" and they'll let him go quietly into the sunset. He is not taking his medicine. It's a very dangerous situation for all of them. -

How reliable are public transportation options compared to owning a car in Thailand?
It's all location relative. First 2 years here, I didn't own a car, and didn't need one. Did have a MB, since living 16 kms outside of town, Udon Thani. A bicycle would have been enough, as a couple local markets were there, even 24 yrs ago. Now there's a couple 7-11s, so no real need even for a MB. If owning a new car every 5-7 years as I did, or less, then it is one of your most expensive conveniences per month, just to have & operate. Of course if you can drive a MB, cuts cost considerably, down to just pocket money. Or 2nd hand car/truck, a keeper that you maintain for long time, to get money's worth. Always bargains out there, same as everywhere in the world. If in a metro area, then bus system is more than enough to get around, with a little patience. We could easily live without a car, but it is convenient, as we still live a bit rural, sort of. The only real reason we ever needed one, was convenient for daughter to go to private school, which was in town. Lived in 2 different houses/areas while attending school, both about same distance from town/school. Last couple years, actually had a van service take here back & forth, but had to me them, 5 kms away, on the main road to town. Saved dealing with in town rush, and a lot of petrol costs, as daily commute was 60-70 kms a day, without the service. Mere 20 kms a day using the van service. It's all much cheaper now, car ownership with BEV. Buying in is cheaper, car is better, operating & maintenance cost is cheaper. Buy in is ~550k, instead of ~700k. Energizing (PEA/MEA) is 12k a year, instead of 54k for petrol (20k kms yearly @ 14 kpL) No oil changes or tune-ups. -

Thailand's Constitutional Court to Decide on Move Forward Party's Dissolution on August 7
The last para suddenly switched to talking about Settha’s case which the old charlatan Wissanu reportedly claimed would not attract any international interest (if he is binned by the constitutional court). It would of course be poetic justice, if a PM who was propelled to power as the nominee of a convicted criminal when the people voted for someone else were to be sacked by the court, but I think it would generate at least a smidgeon on international interest. -

Why is Thailand not full of so called Asylum Seekers?
Donald Trump’s big mistake with his plans to ‘build the wall’ is that it should be between Mexico and Guatemala and patrolled by both Mexican and US forces to keep out freeloaders/invaders from the ‘sh17hole nations’. The issue is not or should not be that Mexican migration is the problem - the US and Mexico have a symbiotic relationship which needs to be worked on to improve Mexico towards US standards and not the other way round as the Democrats have done. Right now parts of Mexico are a far better place to live than any of the so called ‘sanctuary cities’ that the Democrats have systematically destroyed… -
