Bus between Chiang Mai and Phayao crashes off a cliff in mountains east of Wang Nua.

Wishing I had more details other than hearing emergency sirens regularly - over the past several hours. No print media news so far. Neighbors and family say it was a bus load of people who had gone to Chiang Mai to collect Tam Boon offerings that crashed as it was returning to Phayao.

My wife says this has hit the Thai TV news as a report, with death toll in excess of 9 people, some saying 17. Anyone else hear anything?

For references, the emergency vehicle sirens to and from Wang Nua hospital were repetitive from shortly after 5 Pm until shortly after 9 PM, though the frequency of the sirens decreased as the hours passed.

Bangkok Post report of 21:44 says that at least 17 were killed. I'm not sure of the rules, but remember that linking to stories there as being forbidden on this forum..

Note, the Bangkok Post report is also that the bus was traveling from Phayao and returning to Chiang Mai... opposite the way I first heard it said.
