Not sure where he could go, no Thai language makes it very difficult, as the girls he seems to want appear to be a bit upmarket. But he definitely isn't looking for outright p4p girls so .........

Uni students, go and have lunch at one of the 'on campus' eating places at CM uni, take a book, sit alone, wait for contact to be made. Or join the swimming pool on campus (300bht for a year +30bht per swim)

Shop assistants (Kaw Suan Kaow style), I like the Mae Sai bar 50m alongside the BigC car park, just left of the Hong Dong, 121 intersection, but again an entirely Thai speaking situation. Many white guys find the place intimidating.

Not speaking the language is a big drawback in socializing terms in any venue that is mostly targeting the native population. In Thailand I also think a lot of western guys are pretty damn lazy when it comes to the dating scene. The girlie bar scene offers an extremely easy way of linking with women and if you still have your looks casual hook ups with women are pretty damn easy away from the bar scene. However going to venues like the ones you mentioned may require some real effort to attract a woman and a lot of men are just too lazy or in some cases lacking the confidence to do so. That along with some of the women there will only be looking for a Thai man, someone they have more in common with.

I did not learn Thai quickly, it took a year to get basics down and 2 to start feeling comfortable, now going on 6 years my spoken language is pretty good, I am embarrassed about the state of my written and reading levels though. I was also married to a Thai girl who had an MA TESOL and was able to explain a lot of topics, vocab, and grammar points throughout the years we were together.

I also strike out more than I hit, but who cares? It's all about having a fun night, even if you go home alone or if you never intended to go home with someone that night.

We were both young and we both made mistakes. Sadly we could not recover from them but now have a great friendship.

As for now, I am recently single and just having fun.
