hello everone, we are a Dutch family who spend 4 to 6 months every year on Samui.

We are homeschooling our 7 year old son. leaning towards unschooling style.

we are looking for more playdates for our son, as all his friends go to school. also, i will be organizing playgroups 2 x per week on samui from jan onwards and am working on a homeschool holiday program with thailand as theme... so everyday activities like thai cooking, dancing, flora and fauna, coconut wood, festivals, traditions, religion etc etc etc..

hope to meet more families soon!

WOW, your son is so going to hate you when he grows up. Every single activity you have selected is something you would like to do, and NOT something your 7 year old little boy would like to do.

Little boys like to go swimming, play football, go fishing, or play with their friends. They certainly do not like dancing or flora.

Well, little boys hardly like algebra or grammar either.

Not that I would have home schooled my children though. But I believe people should have the choice to do whatever they like. Kids can grow up hating their parents even with the "best" upbringing.

well it's a pity that you think * all* boys like football or fishing and *none* of the boys love dancing or cooking or nature... my boy does like that more than I do, just as his favourite colour has always been pink. narrowing your kids like that can't be what you want, i guess?

but what you perhaps try to say is that it all sounds too boring. my intention is never that, always emphasis in fun. if you can't think of fun activities that most kids would * love*, with the themes i mentioned, it may be a lack of creativity? i can think of dozens.

I greatly admire John Holt. I prefer Phangan but I hope you'll find others to join you.

I admire him too! we spend some time on phangan every now and then, i love it, there is just not enough work for us there.

Thanks NOTMYSELF, this is helpful, i totally understand and see that, too, now!

Welcome, just trying to be helpful.

homeschool holiday activities or maybe various homeschool holiday activities would be more accurate.
