NEXT to Tesco/Lotus on Mae Jo Road, just follow the noise,

if you live near maybe best walking as will not be easy to park.

regards Worgeordie.

if you live behind Tesco? Lotus ,you should be able to hear

they are playing records at moment and I am 500 mtrs away

and its very loud.

When till it lasts, worgeordie? I sometimes shop at the fresh market behind Rimping which is across from Tesco/Lotus.

If it's still going on in the evening, I may ask some non-drinking friends, if available, to tag along to do the driving on the way back. All now depends on the wife's ok.biggrin.png

Has Chatuchak moved? Or is there another one?

There used to be a Chatuchak on the city side of TescoLotus on the Super Highway. It still shows on Google Maps. A friend used to sing at a steak house near that Chatuchak.

I have only been to the TescoLotus on the Mae Jo Road once, yet I drive buy it almost every week and I don't recall a Chatuchak there. Could be, but I don't recall it.

I think the one you are referring to is JJ market, Chatujak Market is fairly new ,which is

why they are having the concert to promote it, at moment are only playing records ,

concert proper will not start till gets dark ,don't know exact time.

Directly over the road from Raumchok market, right next to Tesco on Northern

side, if Mae Jo road runs N-S which i think it does.

Got it. The one off the Super Highway says Chatuchak Inbun Market. It is further off the main thoroughfare on tge map. I saw a sign that said Chatuchak there.

And of you don't like Thai country style music, then don't bother.

The image they portray is of aging Stones come Sabbath....

.....the reality is that they are PANTS

oimho

I stumbled upon Carabao playing at Meechai a while back. We just called in to do some shopping - just another afternoon. They were set up in the area they use for public aerobics. Had dancing girls and all. Hardly anyone around ... I think they were doing a video for a new song or something. They were great ... get along if you can.

They haven't started playing yet, only the warm up acts. Supposed to start around 22:30 or thereabouts. Happened to be passing by and stopped to check out what was happening wit all the lights and so forth.

I put in 11 hours of work today so I won't be going back. But the party is only beginning if anyone wants to check them out. I've seen them before and it's not the style of music I like but they do put on a good show.

Enjoy.

My wife and her friends came back and said that Carabao were not going to

be playing, seems like the whole thing is some sort of con.,they had signs up,

saying they would be there, but this been Thailand, nothing is what it seems,

Its 22.18 now ,will they wont they?

Sorry if anyone especially went to see them.

Couldn't go. No ok from the wife.

How I wish my Canadian friend was in town He and his wife (used to be a singer in a hotel 15 years ago and that's about how long they've been married!) would have gone with me and his wife would drive us back safely cos she doesn't drink.

Carabao, a folk singer, is ok for me. I saw him performing in a hotel in Bangkok by accident. It just happened I was in the hotel at that time for some business. He and his band is far better than these young Thai singers nowadays particularly those male singers when fake voice is involved in the song. Luk Toon is only good in a cafe!

I've met him a couple of times around 20 years ago in CM. Can't remember the name of the bars. Both western style motif. 1st bar was on Sri Poom road, south side of the moat towards the east. The other time was a bar also on Sri Poom on the north side of the moat towards the west end. The 2nd bar he and his group had their choppers parked out front. Both times seemed to be impromptu visits and I enjoyed them myself. But then I was originally a good old country boy from Texas. biggrin.png

He is my favorite Thai artist, but i've passed on several of his concerts because they almost always end in violence...............too bad the idiots spoil his shows by fights, shootings, bombs, gang violence while not listening to his lyrics which mostly speak peace and tolerance. Many of his shows, he has just stopped playing and walked off stage when violence erupted...........

The old JJ market next to Tesco Lotus on the superhighway is an abbreviation of it's full name JatuJak which is often written in English as Chatuchack. It's the same people from the Bangkok weekend market of the same name. The one near to Tesco lotus superhighway is more commonly referred to as JatuJak rather than JJ market by the local Thais.

That's funny. When I got home I mentioned to the g/f that I had stopped to see a Carabao concert across from Ruam Choke but they hadn't started yet and I was too tired and didn't want to stand around listening to the warm up acts for more than an hour. Her response was "trust me on this - Carabao won't perform". I just blew off her comment as being odd and cynical.

I went there at 11.30 last night and the stage and field were deserted .Was there any concert at all ?

There was definitely a concert. I was there around 9:30-9:45 and the place was packed, huge sound system and lighting (bigger than most concert set-ups), many vendors, people drinking, etc. There were some kids performing when I was there. Hard to imagine they were able to clear everything out by 11:30 as the sound and lighting would have taken hours to disassemble. You went across from Ruam Choke Market??

The stage etc was still there but no people and lights off .Myself and a friend had left the Bamboo bar to go see it ,so we just returned to the Bamboo for last orders .

I know i was at the right place ,across from Rumchoke and the field next to the new Tesco .

Weird. Many, many people were arriving at 9:30, beer towers were being served, etc. Perhaps 30 food vendors, etc. I know I wasn't hallucinating because I had only had one large beer Chang by then! Maybe the cops shut it down or something? Hard to figure.
