Truevision - volume fluctuations

Recommended Posts

Anybody else have the problem of your volume going up and down, perhaps every few minuets or so? Doesn't happen while watching a dvd so thinking it's not my tv. What you say?

Yes, I have had the same problem. I have reported it to True, and naturally they pass the buck (or baht). They told me there is a problem with my sound system.

A few years ago it use to be only during ads and there was a big stink in the BKK Post Op Ed etc. True's response was that it was because of the music and other sounds made it seem louder but was not. But now it happens ever few minuets with whatever is on. I also keep my finger on the button but it takes away from the relaxation of watching the idiot box.

Usually goes up when the ads or promos are on,its deliberate of course and it won't change

Yes, that's the only time I notice it and it seems more pronounced on some foreign sourced programming, like CNBC.

Every time the volume increases it's during an ad, promo or an action-filled part of a program. We always have the volume control in hand when we watch True.

Doesn't seem to matter what you are watching. When it comes to action they turn the back ground music up so loud you have a hard time hearing the words. I also watch the television with the volume remote close at hand. As soon as an ad starts I hit the mute and during some of the scenes I adjust the volume.

This may actually be your sound system...

If the channel is surround sound encoded (movies, action scenes) and you don't have a surround system you may have to set your True box or Amplifier to downmix to 2 channels, otherwise the effects will be loud and clear in the L + R speakers and the center channel voice will be all but lost.

yup same problem

I think it's because they get ads etc. from outside sources and simply don't make adjustments?

MORE annoying is the constant REPEATS of films (2012, Puss in Boots ect.) until there is a REAL competitor they will stay fat and lazy

Now True has upcoming movie etc. promotions DURING something your watching ! Up in the left side corner. What the hell next from this garbage company?

Besides problems mentioned above, I notice the sound completely cutting out for a second or two when watching history channel. Seems to happen every five or ten minutes, definitely more frustrating than the increased volumes during breaks in programs.

OP follow up. I spoke with True and they sent a technician over to check. He said he had never heard of the problem and was told by the office it was a problem with the picture? He checked the signal by the following procedure: Menu/Set-Up/System Set-Up/Signal Set-Up then it asked for a PIN. Mine was 2321 which he said was everyones'. Then Signal Band/Entry Point 1. This will show you two bar graphs. Left: Signal Strength which is the incoming signal and Right: Signal Quality which is your box. He said if there is wire that wraps around inside the cable it could cause problems if not cut clean away and also the HDTV cable might need to be replaced. He couldn't find a problem or even hear it when the volume fluctuated when he was listening to it so I think it was just a bunch of maybes and there's a good chance he was just guessing as he didn't know, hear or was familiar with what is apparently a common problem. Glad three guys came over late and waste my whole morning, leave my gate open and let my dog escape, get lost on the way over after I they refused directions as they knew where I lived and when one was left to listen if there was a problem left as quickly as we were out of sight. Didn't expect more but I'm sure there is a silver lining, I'll post if I figure out what it is thumbsup.gif

Wow, people still have True.

What's the alternative besides going without?

CTH, WeTV, T'interwebnet, Roku......

Well, that is certainly one step above going without but hardly an alternative.

Overall if it's within one's budget True serves the purpose just fine. Of course I'm not in America anymore and don't expect the same kind of service, reception etc. In my OP i was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing the same problems and if they had a solution, not life altering stuff, just an everyday friendly discussion.

Anyway since the True technician cleaned up my coaxial cable it seems to be working a little better, so a little improvement is better than none and I'm happy for that.

the problem is there is NO real alternative which is why we get Puss'n' Boots, 2012, the Matrix and endless repeats on most channels - those endless repeats are far more of an issue I think and are born out of laziness and NO competition (real competition not the likes of WeTV etc.)

We are into day 87 waiting for our 2,000 baht deposit to be returned after cancelling and returning the dish and box ,all in good order .It was promised within 45 days, when of course it could be 7 days if they didn't plan to store your money, but hey this is TRUE a real oxy moron.

This is not the first time we have had this "service" after leaving Bangkok for CM, and if you are returning to your home country I suggest you cancel 6 months before you leave and you might have chance of your deposit being returned.
