Three protesters injured in clash with red shirts in Pathum Thani

BANGKOK: -- Three anti-government protesters were injured in Pathum Thani Thursday when their group was confronted by local red-shirt people, leading to a clash.

The group of 100 protesters was marching to rally at the Pathum Thani City Hall at 2:30 pm when some 300 protesters rushed to them in an apparent intimidating manner.

Initially, some 300 policemen at the scene managed to prevent the red shirts from attacking the protesters. But after two sides dispersed in small groups, a group of protesters was attacked by another group of red shirts, causing three protesters to be injured.

Suthep to respond to Yingluck's statement Thursday night

BANGKOK: -- Suthep Thaugsuban, the leader of Civil Monument for Democracy, said Thursday that he will respond to the statement of the prime minister when he makes an announcement later in the night.

He said he would respond to every point that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra mentioned when she earlier went on TV earlier the day to urge protesters to end rallies.

PWO claims packed rice scheme is transparent

THAILAND: -- The Public Warehouse Organisation has insisted that the packed rice scheme is transparent and that the 970,000 packages of packed rice have not gone missing as alleged by the Democrat party.

Responding to the Democrat MPs’ accusations made during the censure debate in the parliament that the packed rice programme was rife with massive corruption and that a huge amount of packed rice had disappeared, PWO director Chanutpakorn Wongsrinil categorically denied all the accusations and claimed that the scheme was transparent and was undertaken properly from the selection of companies to join the scheme and choice of the distributors.

He said he had checked the memorandum of the companies and didn’t find any board members with close connection with the PWO board members.

As for the 970,000 packages of packed rice bought from the PWO by the Islamic committee of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Mr Chanutpakorn said that some 500,000 packages had already been delivered to the buyer with the rest yet to be delivered pending payments.

However, he said that PWO had set up a committee to investigate an allegation that one distributing company did not sell packed rice to the consumers but to the millers instead.

2.5 million tonnes of rice have been allocated to make packed rice of which 1.1 million tonnes have already been released from the warehouses. Of the 1.1 million tonnes released, 590,000 tonnes have been packaged into packed rice.

Govt set to hold celebrations for HM the King’s birthday throughout Dec

BANGKOK, 28 November 2013 (NNT) – The government has announced its readiness to organize celebrative activities for His Majesty the King’s 86th birthday anniversary throughout the month of December while inviting the Thai people to offer their good wishes to His Majesty.

After chairing a meeting with the organizing committee for His Majesty the King’s birthday celebrations, Prime Minister and Defense Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said this year the government’s will hold an exhibition entitled “The King Who Is More Than a King” in honor of His Majesty during December 1-10 at Siam Paragon Shopping Center in Bangkok. Therefore, she extended her invitation to all Thai citizens to visit the exhibition and also sign the well-wishing book dedicated to the revered monarch.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary for the Prime Minister’s Office Thongthong Chandrangsu noted that this year’s celebrations will be special in that His Majesty the King will appear to greet well-wishers on his birthday at the Klai Kangwon Palace in Prachuap Khiri Khan, the first time he does so outside Bangkok.

Mr Thongthong said preparations are being made to accommodate the crowds of Thai citizens expected to come to greet His Majesty during his commute on Phetkasem Road on the auspicious day. The grand rehearsal for the royal ceremony is scheduled for December 3.

Furthermore, the Permanent Secretary encouraged the people nationwide to partake in the candle-lighting ceremony to be held at their respective provincial halls at 19.29 hrs on December 5.

On December 21, the Ministry of Defense will also host a display of fireworks in Hua Hin district, Prachuap Khiri Khan, in commemoration of His Majesty the King’s birthday.

Red shirts clash with protesters in Pathum Thani

Three people were slightly injured during a clash between red-shirt followers and anti-government protesters in front of Pathum Thani provincial hall Thursday.

The violent incident started when about 200 red shirts shouted abuses and threw bottled water at about 100 protesters who rallied in front of the provincial hall to submit a statement to the governor.

Then the two groups engaged in fist fights briefly before police arrived at the scene to separate them.

Police reinforcements were later deployed in front of the provincial hall to prevent possible clash between the two rival groups.

The injured were later sent to the provincial hospital for medical treatment. Their injuries were minor.

Suthep : anti-Thaksin fight to end soon

BANGKOK: -- Civil Movement for Democracy leader Suthep Thaugsuban announced the fight against Thaksin Regime will be finalised within the next few days.

Addressing to the protesters at the besieged Government Complex on Changwattana Road, Suthep said he would reveal the strategy tomorrow (Friday).

However, he continued to mobilise people by telling them to wear sneakers and bringing backpack, water, towel and some food.

Suthep criticises Korn at rally site

BANGKOK: -- Rally leader Suthep Thaughsuban on Thursday lashed out at Democrat MP Korn Chatikavanij for criticising his leadership and decision to lay siege over government agencies. He told the crowd at the Democracy Monument that the protesters owed nothing to Korn and he no longer cared for any politicians or political parties.

Meanwhile Phra BuddhaIssara, a famous monk on Thursday night announced that he would become a leader of the the anti-government protest. He dared police to seek arrest warrant against him.
