Protests cost Thai tourism 'over 25 billion baht'

I smell a new ad campaign, again, to attract "Quality tourists" to make up the difference, because, of course, Farangs are stoopid, and advertising trumps the news and the facts, as is believed here, especially by the Takky regime.

The ones that come will have to pay more to make up the difference. Sure they will understand we cant lose that sort of money, look at those poor rice farmers that Govt promised to support!

Protests Cost Thai Tourism 'Over 25 Billion Baht'

Which is a mere fraction of what this useless government has cost this country to date through corruption, populist vote buying policies and stupidity, a mere fraction of what it will cost the country if they are still in power and allowed to pocket sums of their proposed 2.2 trillion baht loan and a mere fraction of what Thaksin has taken from the country ( 46 billion of which that they managed to get back would be returned to him if his crimes were allowed to be whitewashed ). So stop with the bs propaganda and just leave now Shins and all your cronies. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out....

Thailand′s tourism industry is expected to lose over 25 billion baht in revenues due to the prolonged protests against Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, which turned violent in recent days.

Hope Suthep will read this...

Thats ok they will just up the hotel fees and add on a bit more farang "tax" to the usual double pricing wink.png

I just continue to shake my head at the total disregard Thais have regarding the damage this continual fight between Yellows/Reds. Democracy, they cant even spell the word, it is only democratic if their side wins!!!

All this just goes to reinforce the fact that Suthep could'nt care a hoot about his fellow citizens. All he is interested in is his own king size ego and his lust for power. If he really did have concern for Thailand and its people he would have waited, holding back his acts of thuggery until "after" the high tourist season is over. No! the man is a power hungry traitor on a par with Mugabe.

He's hardly a Mugabe. That's just dumb.

But he is more interested in power and his own ego than he is about his fellow Thais but that shouldn't come as a big surprise.

How many Thai politicians can you think of that aren't?

really i wouldn't have any figures, but it's MUCH...:)

Once again, this deep, deep and constant concern about tourism must amount to more than 6% of Thailand's GDP. If this were happening in a Western country, even one with big tourism, like, say, France or Spain, there's no way we would see these frequent complaints and worries from top-level officials and business people RE lost revenue.

What's the real percentage of GDP that tourism (READ: Foreigners) contribute to Thailand? 25%?

I agree with your assessment about Suthep, though no where near Mugabe and still not as power hungry as Thaksin, though the timing of all this is all the Governments fault for when they decided to bring in the bill.

At the end of the day, the cause of this and the timing is the Government's fault completely. Just a shame, a prat like Suthep has taken it to a ridiculous and stupid effect.

Who cares? Theses thugs only complain when farmers receive a guaranteed price for their rice, which equals agricultural subsidies given from America to Europe and from Japan to New Zealand. When these thugs run the economy in the ground with violence, a coup or else it is fine though. Rubbersubsidies per rai of land are way higher than rice subsidies but no word about it. And the hotel owners will knock on the government's door soon and they will as always money (if they are Thai businesses of course).

Suthep wants a North krean style appointed council that governs. We all know how well North Korea is doing and Suthep's deputies should be worried. They could be executed any time.

The never ending minutia that pours from the mouths of these idiots in the TIT FTI TCA and TA makes me sick to the stomach. There analysis is fraught with conjecture and there reported numbers are subject to interpretation. The public simply can not believe one word they say. There is a strong evidence to suggest that in the case of most of the senior executives of these prestigious bodies that their mother's put the nappies on the wrong end.

"Currently, the nation’s main airport is receiving 49,000 tourists a day, 1,000 less than its usual time."

That's doesn't sound too bad.

Yeah I bet half of that number are probably in transit to other countries, as Thailand says it is the hub of Asia.

<deleted>? Red mobsters chose the busiest and most lucrative period of the year to start their demonstrations - Songkran holidays. They caused maximum damage to Thai economy on purpose. Anyway, why on earth the current government pursued the amnesty bill when everyone knew very well that introducing such bill would cause demonstrations in Bangkok and elsewhere. Thailand has much bigger problems to deal with instead of trying to introduce the law which will whitewash Thaksin's crimes. No man is bigger than the country,

How do they work out what a tourist "donates" to a lady companion on his holiday as I didn't think they accepted Visa/MasterCard as a form of payment. Cash would be hard to trace unless of course the lady files her tax return, then she would have a potential problems as prostitution is illegal in Thailand, eeerrrrrmmm.

poor poor TAT

they want to charge that extra 500 baht per tourist to make 10 billion and now they are losing 25 billion

guess they will have to raise it to 2000 baht per person to be on schedule to pay the high bonus of everybody

"TAT also has, on its website, an explanation and information regarding the protests"

Oh... well there you have it... If TAT posted an explanation on their website everything will be just jake... whistling.gif

Do these people ever actually listen to the silly sounds they make when their mouths are flapping faster than their brains can think?

It seems impossible for them to not realize that they sound like a bunch of nincompoops.

Who cares about the foreigners anyway. They'll just find a way to make up the lost in other ways. Maybe require pensions for wives of foreign retires too? Duoh!!

Who said anything about the pensioners wives spending any money.  Money in the bank is not the same as giving money to the Thai government.  Get your facts straight!

Unlike a Thai, try to think ahead and see the bigger picture.

The wives are to be required to also prove a pension from overseas. And where does the money go? Spending in Thailand. You think the money won't stay in the country? So making up billions in the economy will be made up in consumer goods spending and possibly some taxes along the way. Duuuhhhh.

Talking to my Chinese friends visiting in the new year,.they have been told by travel agencies that will not be insured in Thailand because of the street protests. This will cause many tourists to cancel and agencies are offering other South east asian destinations .Just gotta love it. PS. Waiting for the prices to go up because of the tourist numbers down, the usual Thai way.
