Proof Of Residence For Driving License

Recommended Posts

I have heard that instead of paying nearly Bt3000 for a letter from the Britsh Embassy, that I can go to immigration (One stop at Rachada) and get it for a fraction of the cost.

Can this be done at any time, and the letter supplied to me if I provide a copy of my rental agreement, or house deeds with my name on?

Anyone can confirm?

Thanks

As you need a Non Immigrant visa to get the licence this means you are reporting to Immigration, and they will issue the letter for for you.

I think it is free, but if not the charge is nominal.

Also if you are on a 1-year extension be sure to bring the receipt of your 90-day reporting.

Just came across this post on the Chiangmai Expat Club board.

"I went along to immigration to collect the Guarantee of Residence form. Good news and bad. There is now no longer a 300 baht charge but you do need the following and I am quoting from the form that they gave me:

GUARANTEE OF RESIDENCE

Required Documents

1 2 5 in X 2 in colored photos (We are not sure whether this is correct - Normally Passport size photos)

2. Passport with copies of picture page and most recent entry stamp, visa, intension limit, and arrival/departure card (TM Card).

All copies must have the signature of the alien.

3. The alien must show his/her current proof of notification of staying in the Kingdom for over 90 days.

4. Evidence of notification of place of residence to the Chiang Mai Immigration Office (TM28)

5. A copy of the house registration of the house the alien rents signed by the owner of the house or the rental contract for the house the alien rents with a signed copy by the alien.

Please note: The alien must sign the letter of guarantee in the presence of the Immigration Officer.

There is no charge for issuing a letter of guarantee of residence.

Cheers,

Dear Taiwais,

What is Item 3 of the requirement for Guarantee of Residence:

3. The alien must show his/her current proof of notification of staying in the Kingdom for over 90 days.

Surely if I have a multiple entry Non-Imm B visa, and an arrival/dept card less than 90 days old, that is sufficient proof? :o

Please clarify,

thanks

You are correct, it only applies if you are on one-year extensions.

There never was a charge for the proof of resedency document, just tell he you know it's free and your not paying it and she will say quietly, ok, The charge for that paper is one of the biggest con's in there.

This proof of residency...

Does it proof i live in thailand or in my homecountry

and what do i need to show in the embassy to get one ?

does it work if i am registerd as a resident in my homecountry ?

I'm wondering this as well as I'll be staying in a rented apartment and proving I live there will mean fancy talking to the proprieters of the place!

I think its house bills or some kind of contract paperwork for the dwelling your staying at.

There is lots on this thread in 'driving license renewal' or similar.

You have to have non immigrant visa of some sort O, A, etc to get a Thai license. Proof of your residency in Thailand is from embassy of your home country - about 1200 THB from UK embassy I think, you just fill in a form stating your address. :o
