Yesterday while in the middle of nowhere I got a flat tire on my new Honda Amaze. Go into the trunk to get the tool kit and spare tire out. Nothing, I mean no tire, no tool kit. Called the dealer. Was told that items such as these are "extras" Thanks for telling me this when I was buying the car Honda.

Agree, ludicrous, and yes, Honda should not do that.

You can however no blame Honda for not telling you, that is the dealer's omission.

Whilst it is wrong for the dealer not to try and sell you the extras, although I can't imagine that they didn't try. Probably all included in some extras package like the proverbial rubber floor mats.

Then again these so called eco cars are like the Ryan Air of the auto industry, all competing on price so ....would you like a drink, Sir? or a sandwich?

It is also the drivers responsibility to check for the location of the spare and the jack etc. What would the OP do if he rented a car? Maybe check for the spare and jack?

What does it say in the owners manual?

...you buying a car...not renting one...blink.png ....and if something goes wrong in the rental(assuming, that you've rented from a decent company),they will bring you a new one wink.png

My swift has a puncture repair kit, which was useless when I got a puncture. Never got a puncture in my civic in 9 years, but got one only a few months after having the swift. A piece of wire went through the side wall. Fortunately the spare for my honda would fit on the swift, until I got a new tire.. I ended up getting a proper spare when was available on the lower models.

Once rented a pickup in Bangkok to be delivered to my hotel. I was off up Isaan with it. Driver turned up on time. First thing I did was check spare wheel, jack & wheel brace. Nope.

Sent the guy back to the yard some kms away to get same. Delayed us over an hour.

1st time I ever rented a pickup in LOS, (never anything else as the driving position is so much better than cars) had a puncture at night in a remote area. Luckily I had checked the gear was there and how to access it and had a torch with me.

OP when was the last time you had checked your tyre pressures .... all 5 of them?

In fairness, there are some basic assumptions you should be able to make when buying a new car. e.g. that there's oil in the engine, brakes lights, head lights and indicators all work, and that the spare tire is in good condition and present in the car.

I'm lost for words as to why Honda think a spare tire and basic tools are a defendable omission from a brand new car.
