Wiring in an electric cooker

Featured Replies

Bought a new cooker for kitchen extension - 2,600 watts.

Slightly concerned about what I am hearing from the Thais.

I would imagine that 6mm cable is required to a 35a fuse in the consumer unit.

The electrician wants to put in a dedicated breaker (as is the Thai Way) which I don't think is necessary.

Thai Watsadu AND the electrician spoke of 2.5m cable! - that worries me.

The boy at TW recommended a 32? amp breaker and a 20a fuse.

Could someone please put me straight.

Thank you.

2,600 watts at 220V is about 12A.

Put a plug on it and plug into a regular outlet, or give it its own circuit, 2.5mm2 on a 20A breaker (just to future proof, 1.5mm2 on a 15A breaker would be OK).
