As opposed to the megalomaniac, sociopathic, criminal, avaricious alternative, who is after destroying the country? Which would you prefer? The problem is both the comments apply to either side. He is a fugitive, wanted for charges that are more serious than bank fraud. Any meeting that doesn't result in immediate arrest undermines the concept of justice.
