Just arrived on samui via the ferry yesterday, an employee (exactly who employee don't know) tried to say there were no buses or taxi waiting for them at lipa noi. I told everyone it was bs, but a few still bought tickets. This occurred just before the transfer bus left to donsak. I called air asia to inform them, they insisted this doesn't happen, I could tell she couldn't care less. Annoying to see people ripped off. Tom

Arriving in Nathon is usually no problem, there will always be taxis and songtaews there even late in the evening.

The ferry port in Lipa Noi is known for having a limited number of taxis and often none at all in the evening, something to think about if you arrive there.

1200 baht, if that is what he asked, is way over the top - its a scam.

I usually pick up my visitors if they arrive in Lipa Noi just because you can never be sure that there is an available taxi or minibus there.

So if having a choice better take the Seatran ferry and arrive in Nathon. :)

So what should I do in this case? If someone is trying to scam me, like the young man making 1200 per person, what do I say to him and what should I do?

Do I go with the scam or do I look for alternatives.

I am assuming there are alternatives?

Just ignore him and inform others, or tell him to ram it like I did!.

Seatran to Nathon can do that, but have u done it in rough seas?. Not pleasant and I'll never do it again!.

since the thread is talking about arriving in Lipa Noi, it is worth knowing for those new here that while all the car ferries start their service here used, the SeaTrans ferries appear to be newer, and are certainly larger than their competitor. While neither one inspires great confidence, if I need to take one of them in rough weather it would be SeaTrans

So after reading this whole thread: would someone please point me in the right direction?

Me, my wife and our daughter (1year) are flying Suratthani-Kuala Lumpur on Dec 29, and back on the 31st, both flights are around midday with Air Asia. I already have the flight tickets.

We stay in Lamai on Koh Samui.

So now I am looking for a scam-free transport from our hotel in Lamai all the way to Suratthani airport, without having to change busses, without having to buy several tickets ( bus, ferry), without having to pay money to more than ONE company/person, without somebody telling me and my baby to get off the bus, without stopping short of the airport to tell us "xcuse me, no can go airport, more mony...". If some Thai scammer is trying to make this trip more inconvenient for my baby and my wife than it already is, I will not hesitate to show hin in a very physical way that I am prepared to go to prison for the well- being of my family.

Further, I am prepared to pay substancially more ( even happier to pay a fellow farang!) than the 550 BTH Phantip offer. I don't trust any Thai anymore.

PM me. I could pick you up in Donsak and get you safely to the airport.

As always: thank you all so much for the useful advice.

I have decided on taking the Lomoraya including hotel pick up. Will be 850 BTH from Lamai hotel all the way to Surat Thani airport.
