Motorcycling Thailand Into Laos

Featured Replies

I am wondering if I can motorcycle up to any of the Laos borders and cross over with my motorcycle to do some "touristy" stuff in Laos for a few days. More specifically, I would prefer to cross over in Tahkek or Mukdahan or Nong Khai (listed in order of preference).

Also I will need to get a re-enty stamp in my passport before I leave Thailand. I am in Thailand on a "Thai Wife" extension. I know I can get this done in Nong Khai, but anybody know if can be done in Tahkek or Mukdahan area. :o

Harry the Finn knows all about that. he should be back in Korat soon.

Ken,

Whens the trip, I'll be back on the 3rd June. The last time I was in NongKai we had to get a paper from the town office based on the car book to take it into Laos, should probably be the same for a bike.

Cheers

Thanks for the input guys. I also posted the question in the Travel Forum here and got a link to a really good website. They had all the info I needed, plus, plus, plus. Bikers should indeed check it out.Golden Triangle Rider

At any rate it looks like it is quite the "pain" and even at Nong Khai apparently for the last few months cannot be done at all. It looks like for my purposes it will be better to leave my bike on the Thai side and rent once into Laos.

So I've put this trip into Laos on a temporary hold at the moment and instead will be traveling up to Loei and then around the Mekhong River. Leaving this morning as a matter of fact. :o
