By Ben Sokhean

BANGKOK: -- A Cambodian woman who was allegedly detained and beaten by the manager of an illegal gambling establishment she worked for in Bangkok has been rescued and returned to Cambodia, according to local rights group Adhoc.

Officials at the Cambodian Embassy in Bangkok, with the help of Thai NGOs, located Phat Somesa, 32, from Banteay Meanchey province, on Tuesday afternoon and transported her back to Cambodia, said Soum Chankea, Adhoc provincial coordinator in Banteay Meanchey.

“At 4 p.m. Tuesday, the Cambodian Embassy and Thai NGOs found the location where the girl was being held and went to rescue her,” Mr. Chankea said. The woman spent Tuesday night at the embassy in Bangkok before traveling to Siem Reap. [read more...]

i will not be surprise to learn that she was also raped as wellbah.gif.pagespeed.ce.-cCHYEZ1Lo.gif alt=bah.gif pagespeed_url_hash=4274630315 width=19 height=19>

its a good remember to all of us, that in Thailand you are just allowed to spend your money... not allowed to win at the casino.

But in the other hand, they are allowed to scam you, rob you, beat you, trash you, rape you, murder you without consequences... welcome to Thailandbah.gif.pagespeed.ce.-cCHYEZ1Lo.gif alt=bah.gif pagespeed_url_hash=4274630315 width=19 height=19>

ps: since when the casino are allowed here?

"ps: since when the casino are allowed here?"

They aren't. Neither are bribes, soliciting for sex, corruption, etc.

That's why so many Thais go across the border to Cambodia for their proper gambling fun/fix.

Im sure the casino was shut down and the manager was sent to jail, to await multiple charges of illegal gambling, holding the lady against her will, and maybe more. OH, I forgot that maybe the police dont know where this casino is!

A new way for TAT to keep the tourist-numbers up??coffee1.gif

Lock them up in illegal casinos, so the 3 trillion goal can be reached!!

Yes, casino shut down, I don't think so, where is all the gaming equipment? In a new location of course, they are always being relocated as they are illegal, owned by whom? The BIB and the rich and powerful from Bangkok of course, why do they want their power back, its not rocket science!

I believe that the rescuers thought that any BIB involvement would be counterproductive. Why they have announced the location after the event is another matter.

I'm happy that she survived and has returned home, hopefully more wary in the future. The modern face-cards we use today were designed in the era of French Corsairs, essentially pirates. In many places around the world the cut-throat mentality remains around the gambling table (and the whole building) and any smart girl will stay clear of it all.

Almost certainly the police, and they also own at least 3 online casinos... I know that for a fact because my wife offers programming services and she has already been given work on one of them.

Ahhh.... you're forgetting. After the last big ruckus about illegal casinos in Bangkok a few months back spurred in part by Khun Chuwit, the BKK police did a "crackdown" on them and vowed they wouldn't allow illegal casinos here.

So obviously, this was all a big misunderstanding, since there are no more illegal casinos in Bangkok! tongue.png

Of course, every time the police went to raid one of these places, all they found by the time of their raid were empty warehouses or houses and neighbor reports that they'd seen a lot of moving trucks the night before... whistling.gif

Stories like this will never stop. UNTIL the government via the police put an end to these illegal places. If it's illegal it's allowed-same prostitution-local lotteries-police fines revenue not passed on to the treasury-national park land illegal buildings-tourist scams- illegal planning permission-(example Pattaya city council bypassing law allowing condo's to be built in front of condo's) name so many more.

Had there been no gambling place there this lady would not be in the news.

What about the poor Laotian girl that was in the same position but wasn't there when they raided the place (in the news article). What is being done to locate her and protect her from this scum......

Remember a good while ago when the police received a court order to enter the gambling premises. They could not do it because WAIT FOR IT----the path leading to the said premises was privately owned and they did not have a court order to walk down it.cheesy.gif. cheesy.gif.

In Thailand as in all countries there will be people scamming, people robbing you ect...... That is a fact of life and truthfully to dwell on this as they say in Thailand--- For What??. In most countries underground casino's is a way of life. The amount of money these establishments bring in is alot. As long as there is a criminal element there will be illegal casino's. Thailand is a great country to live in with its access to fresh fruit/vegetables and the great weather and low rental condos/houses. Hence making it an ideal place for people who are on a fixed income to live. To focus on the negative aspects (which all countries have) is really not the way to go. The logic is---if it is so bad here, why are you here in the first place? I know, cheap girls and great weather....LOL. Take care.......
