BANGKOK: -- The Center for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) today tightened security at 27 foreign embassies in the capital as the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (DPRC) kicked off street marches from Democracy Monument to Silom.

The second-day of the 14-kilometer march will use the route starting from Democracy Monument to Silom passing Rajdamnern, Yaek Pan Fah, Larn Luang, Saphan Khao, Krung Kasem, Hua Lampong, Rama IV, and Silom.

They will have lunch on Silom road and return in the afternoon using Narathiwat Rajanakarin, Siphaya, Hua Lampong Yaowaraj, Saphan Lek, Wang Burapa, Wat Suthat, Din Sor and Democracy Monument.

A total of 27 foreign embassies are located on the route which the DPRC demonstrators will take to their destination at Silom and back to the Democracy Monument.

CAPO spokesman Pol Maj-Gen Piya Uthaiyo said that the police would provide traffic convenience for the demonstrators to march to their destination and at the same time would also provide security for all these embassies along the route.

DPRC secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban started the long march at about 9.30 a.m. today. The street marches are aimed at persuading all Bangkok people to come out in full force on Sunday to oust what it said is the illegitimate government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

The march received cheers and shouts “Lung Kamnan Soo Soo” (Uncle Kamnan fight, fight) from people along both sides of the streets particularly at Bo Be wholesale clothing market where vendors coming out to take photos with him.

PDRC street march will pause temporarily on Saturday before the massive march Sunday when protest leader declared to be a victory day of the people.

DPRC planned five major locations in the capital Sunday for mass rallies and activities. They are Democracy Monument, Yaek Pathumwan, Rajaprasong, Asoke, and Silom.

In a weird related note, The Nation reported today on the Bangkok reservations being down 25% over last year. Further, and this was a kick, it said "69 per cent of the companies in the capital are calling on the government to guarantee their earnings if their businesses are hit by the political chaos."

I am not sure a caretaker government can do that, but this is Amazing Thailand.

BANGKOK, Dec 20 - Anti-government protesters marched across the Thai capital on the second day to invite Bangkokians to join forces with the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) mass rally on Sunday.

Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban led the protesters marching from the Democracy Monument on Rajdamnoen Avenue passing through several key points including Phan Fa Lilat Bridge and Hua Lampong railway station.

They stopped for lunch at the BTS Skytrain Silom station before returning to the Democracy Monument, their main rally site, through Chinatown's Yaowaraj and Suthat Temple route.

Mr Suthep and other protest leaders have been greeted by the public and passerby along the route who welcomed them with whistle blowing, the PDRC signature, as well as donating money for the group following reports that more protest leaders' banking accounts will be frozen by the authorities.

The PDRC held rallies yesterday and today to invite the public to join another mass gathering on Sunday to pressure Ms Yingluck Shinawatra to resign as caretaker prime minister. During the march, the protest leaders emphasised the group's stance that political reform must be carried out before the general election.

Meanwhile, the Democrat Party today announced that it agreed with postponing the general election earlier set for Feb 2 as it could not reduce the conflict.

Party spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut also referred to the latest stance of the Election Commission (EC) that there are legal possibilities for postponing the election but that all political parties must agree with the move.

Mr Chavanond urged the political parties to express their intention to support the delayed election. He said the newly-elected Democrat secretary-general Chuti Krairiksh today will go to the headquarters of the Pheu Thai, Chartpattana, Chartthai Pattana and Palangchon parties to present letters urging them to think about the national interest before party and personal benefit.

He reiterated that the Democrat Party is ready to talk with all political parties to end the country's conflict. (MCOT online news)

From what I hear, many of the employees of the hard-hit businesses seem to support the marchers - as evidenced by the throngs on the sidewalks waving flags and blowing whistles when the phalanx passes by.

With many of the hired marchers riffraff, and looking at past marches, it would be judged incompetence not to

increase security if anything went wrong.

On what authority can the Democrat Party be the arbitrator for all Political Parties in respect the upcoming election.?

I am astonished that all of the Thai institutions of Democracy and Law tolerate the dictate of unconstitutional institutions cobbled together and led by criminals.

Why have all of Thailand's constitutional institutions become so benign?

It seems like the entire nation is so transfixed by each others spoils from corruption that they have gone completely mad because every other institution is feeding off their personal trough.

The tragedy for the Thai people is that whichever movement wins the day the level of corruption will increase.

If the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) win the day the expected out come is that access to the trough will return to being the exclusive reserve of the of the elite and their Democrat Party and what little honor is left in Thailand will be lost for generations.
