Just close all roads in Thailand all year.

As I remember it, when they publish the 'dangerous death toll days' for new year it typically averages 70 to 80 deaths a day on Thai roads.

If the annual total is in the region of 27,000 deaths (approx 75 a day), then New Year is no more dangeous than any other time to drive!

How about just enforcing the law? cheesy.gif

They should ban the smoke belching songteaws & tour buses from going up year round. I often wonder why folk cycle up that road, can't be healthy with that lot driving past......

Wonder whose idea this really was? The red car group or the police? wink.png

The red car brigade have also the rights to take people to Doi Inthanon, 500 Song Teaws and 200 silver buses allocated during the same period whist you leave your car at the Convention Centre parking Risk life and limb to go to both places now.

Those Reds sure have some pull.

Going to be interesting to watch those old bombs belching smoke and minimial brakes AND inebriated drivers!

Hope they'll allow me to drive to MHS province....

Driving back to Mae Rim along the Samoeng rd this afternoon, they were clearing up the wrecks from a head on between a car & a pickup. Twisty bit of road, but so easy just to keep left. A$$holes.

Not a bad idea to keep the drunks off a dangerous road thus leaving more room for intoxicated taxi drivers, makes perfect sense.

Ah! Nothing like this sort of announcement to get TV Chiang Mai posters to look under the rug, or wherever!

But it does not mention riding barebac, horses pulling carts, elephants, or wheelchairs! And you might even go up one of the trails if you are not ready for a wheelchair!

So, go for it !!!

And, by the way, have a very safe happy Christmas and new year!

The best trails start high up, such as from Ban Doi Pui to the Buddha footprint . No way I 'm taking the family up in a songteaw. We can wait until the curfew is over...

So all those tourists who come to see it have to get out of their airconditioned busses and vans with seatbelts and pile in the back of an old truck to go to the top. Not a thing that will appeal to many.

bacause the car cannot come down from Doi suthep last year due to many car on narrow road, not surprise for this news

Only a narrow road beyond Phuping Palace.

Normal hot air posturing once again.

I went up today on the bicycle and everybody is up the road.

Chinese on rented motorbikes in droves.

No discernable restrictions.
