BANGKOK: -- The Transport Company and the State Railway of Thailand are increasing buses and trains to cope with increasing passengers during the New Year festival. This included free bus and train services.

The Transport Company managing director Wuthichart Kalayanamit said that the normal 5,800 bus trips per day will be increased to 7,600 trips during the New Year season. This included service offered by its pool bus fleets and vans to cope with expected 204,000 passengers per day.

He was confident that with more buses added to normal service, all New Year celebrants will be able to return homes to celebrate New Year with nobody being stranded at bus terminals.

Meanwhile the Land Transport Department also is providing free checks of vehicles to ensure safety for motorists.

More than 2,250 make-shift service stations will be set up to provide free services along major highways to the North and South.

Meanwhile the Expressway Authority of Thailand also will exempt toll for motorists using its Buravithi expressway from December 27-January 3.

The State Railway of Thailand also will increase more free trains to destinations in the North, Northeast and South.

This happens each year and is not an offer from a political party, it is by the different departments themselves.
