Timwin, this is exactly the problem here, so many new schools literally sell ED visas and are advertising this way. This is the basis of their business, learning anything there is a secondary thing. The MOE can see that. Walen is advertising learning Thai or English and providing with it an ED visa assistance for those interested in long term study, it is a big difference. We have several thousand students and we take good care of all the paperwork so it is in order and we will continue to do so. I do not see any change for now for students learning at Walen School.

So what if I have no bank account in England and my income is solely deposited in a Thai account, can I not study at your school?

What is exactly required a proof of income???

It is new development. I will need to process a few applications first to see how it works in practice but Walen School will do our best to provide ED visa assistance to our students. Will keep you posted.

Amazing Thailand! They make it harder and harder for me to live here and dump my money into the their economy. When will realize that there are people in this world who are under 50 yrs old and don't have to work?

There is another rumour that retirement visas will be starting again at 55. I believe it was this age in the past and it was lowered to 50.

I predicted this several years ago when will the do not they realize we support Thailand with our meager spending, how could they do this even though I work here illegally. The whining and crying back in the day when they went to 15 day land border runs was classic.

Receiving a regular income from abroad working for a company abroad to my thai bank account, the question is, am I allowed to say so?

Just state you support your self.

As long as money is coming from outside the country they will not care how you got it.

It is a highly reputed school because of their high standards and ethics. They are certainly not killing there own business, not at all.

You have never been allowed to work part time. Any work requires a work permit.

You can get B visa, work permit and an extension for working. You can go to school with any visa.

You could say Yyor wife is supporting you.

If you are legally married to Thai you don't need a ED visa or extension. You could get extensions based upon marriage. Or a multiple entry non-o visa.

What if you have your own savings but the form asks for "the person who is supporting you financially". Then if you have a person, for example your wealthy uncle in Italy, who does not speak English. They are going to call him and speak Italian?

Who really learns in TH will get with out any problem, problem for the visa runners.

I think the idea is to show how you will support yourself during your study, not how you support yoursef in the past.

Retirement visa has 65 000 Bath per month limit. If it is anywhere close to that, all schools will lose a lot of "genuine" students with meager savings. That is sure. Few will come up with 26500 dollars (= yearly sum) just to study Thai in Thailand and showing the same sum every 3 months to the officials. Most live with mere 20-40 000 Baht.

Well not necessarly, I live in the far north and only recently there was a school to open (well let's say a convenient one). It still requires a 50KM travel one-way and that twice a week.

Actually, comparing the 2 "new" forms there is no real change from what has always been required.

Walen School is interested in maintaining the ED visa system as it benefits a lot of students. Of course we are against schools selling ED visas as they will potentially ruin the system and it will have a great negative effect on those who are legitimate students and there are a great many of those.

I studied at Walen for a year and I enjoyed it. But sitting up in Changwattana and asking other "students" what book there were gave the reply they were just in for the visa. For as many students at your school for the number of visas issued, there was a time I was the only student in the classroom, and the classes seemed to only have the same few people taking actual lessons. I largest class I think I ever experienced was 9 students at a time. Where are all the students, and are you going to cancel those thousands of visas of those that are not attending? Honestly I'm finding these comments very bizarre.

Actually, if they set the income limit too high, it will encourage the abusers. The shady characters with the flash and cash, just showing up in a school and buying one year visa without showing even once to a class.

They do not care, 100-200 000 Baht to bribe a school is nothing to them. Just ask "Uncle Tony" to send the money from the Caymans. Soon schools will be starving for cash because there are too few students with enough cash. Then comes in a guy with 200 000 Bahts in a suitcase...yeah, you get the picture.

Any idea why these forms asking about the applicant's religion and that of his/her mother and father? I haven't previously encounter any government interest in my deeply held belief in Pastafarianism.

They might have some issues with Muslims, considering the violence in the south is going on for ages. So it's just a way of singling potential threats.

In any case - you can lie about your religion, or just put Atheist.
