after a 20 minute firefight, during which presumably more than 6 rounds were expended, there was still only one injury (Thai). Sounds like

a) the Thais got the result they deserved

they weren't actually aiming at anyone, so the injury was a complete accident.

After all the money the Americans have spent on propping up the Thai military over the years, have they ever told them which end of the gun points towards the target? At least when the Americans fire blindly at their targets, they expend so much ammunition that they are almost certain to hit something...

I've got a garmin for sale in order to prevent future international incidents.

This occurred near an area where Thai and Cambodian military figures have joint business interests (casinos etc) as is true in many parts of the border.

I have no information specific to this particular incident but I know from the past that these things usually stem from "business' disputes between same.

Given the location and lack of press I doubt this was engineered fro PR purposes. If that, the Preah Vihear area and lots of press hype would make more sense.

So to save face rather than admitting the error and withdraw they opened fire - the mind boggles
