Suggestion in regards the "Welcome To Chiang Mai" sign...

Just making a drive from Mae Rim to CM today....almost all the right/U-turns were blocked...good,I was going strait...but than coming to Canal Rd and Huey Keau Rd,that intersection was blocked too and traffic lights off....so have to go to next available U-turn,to be able to turn...

But coming back,I noticed that for the North bound traffic, the first U-turn was about 2,5 km up the road,so it means that for the folks trying to turn into Huay Keau, they need to make an extra 5km!

That actually worked good and traffic was 'flowing',slowly but with not much stoppage....

...so,what is it all about?...yes,it is all the Holidays Traffic, but it seems to be much more of it this year.I've notice that almost 9 out of 10 cars were out of the province!Maybe it was just on this road today, but it was scary....

...so,now my suggestion about the the "Welcome to Chiang Mai" sign just South of the city....since we are having problems with the traffic as it is,maybe(!) the sign should be changed to "Sorry,we are Full,Go Home".....of course I'm joking,but.....you know what I mean wink.pngbiggrin.png

Came back from west of Pai today. Between Pai & Chiang Mai, the traffic heading to Pai was incredible. Where are they all planning to stay? Almost a continuous snake of cars heading to Pai.

The university also had graduation ceremony, today. Despite a very difficult crowd situation in a congested area, and considering the incoming traffic for the new year celebrations, I think that the BIB did a rather good job of smoothing the traffic situation out given the road pattern. (I went through it.)

Consider, also, what might be considered the outrageous decision to limit traffic up Doi Suthep for a few days. It was a very sound decision, if you think about it a bit!

Given all the sh*t that is heaped upon the BIB these days on this forum, you really have to compliment them on some well-executed adjustments considering what they have to deal with (in terms of development and road conditions) --- including the children on bikes who post here that accelerate through road checks never expecting to be chased, jump red lights, never bother to read enough Thai to understand traffic signs, and so on.

I've mentioned that before, that the traffic was bad,but still moving,somehow......I guess, this is the only place that switching off the traffic lights, makes the traffic go smoother....who needs them anyway tongue.pngbiggrin.png

...and BIB's are super busy constructing the road blocks everywhere...thumbsup.gif
