What's the largest screen laptop you've seen in Thailand?

Featured Replies

When I bought my laptop 3 years ago in Tucom, Pattaya, I couldn't find anything larger than 14". I had a look a couple of weeks ago for a new one and still can't see anything bigger.

EDIT: I just had a look online at Lazada and they do a few 15 and 17 inch Lenovos, so that might fit the bill.

If its for in home use why not just plug a large screen into it, then you can have whatever you need.

Mine is a fairly cheap emachines D732Z that I've had for nearly 4 years and is developing a few glitches like turning itself off because the fan's not running and some keys repeating themselves like aa etc, so it might be time to upgrade.

Fair enough. Looks like good value for the money, hope things turn out well for you!

I have a 17" Lenovo which I bought from PowerBuy in the Beach Central Mall about 18 months ago. No problems of any kind. Leave it on 24/7. It runs very cool, never hear the fan. I like a large screen laptop to take with me for my rather frequent hospital stays. I paid 25,000. It should be cheaper now.

They are out there.......................

I was a Lenovo buyer for the last 10 years but realized I can buy a Macbook Pro and boot up dual operating systems. 15" macbook pro is the best computer out there in my opinion.

Bought a 15.6 inch acer in tukcom last year but must admit they are a rarity here.

Not sure why but the Thai lap top market seems to be dominated by smaller screen models.

As somone has suggested you can connect to a large screen via hdmi cable and not only do u have a large screen but you have 2 screens which I find very handy.

Why do you find two screens handy? Where do you position your laptop, is it in front of large screen monitor. Wouldn't that obstruct the view?

Alienware make an 18" but not cheap

Laptops are meant to be portible. Laptops are meant to run on batteries. Screens are one of the biggest users of power. Biggger screens use more power.

Alienware 19" and other large portable comoputers are generally meant to be used plugged in the different places the user goes. Their life on battery is not great and they are hard to carry round.

I would suggest a smaller laptop for the times you want to use it away from home and plugging it in to whatever size monitor you want at home,

I am talking about split screens not duplicated screens.

So I can have two windows open at once, two websites or,as I am doing right now, I can have internet TV going on one screen and type an answer to this email on the other. There are a great many uses for having two screens to work off. I have had this set up for so long I feel really restricted when I only have one screen. I can also switch the content from screen 1 to screen 2 and back again at the flick of a mouse.

I have the large TV monitor screen in front of me and the 15 inch lap top screen facing me at an angle on the right hand side of my table, so its sort of like a cockpit. I also use a remote keyboard which is right in front of me so I don't have to stretch over to the right to use my laptop keyboard.

It works great. I know some people even have 3 spilt screens on the go. It depends on what you are doing.

To me a 15 inch laptop is a good compromise. It is good enough to act as a second screen for desktop activities and portable enough when I travel away from home, or when I connect it to my main TV in the evening to watch movies etc.

Sounds like a couple of cheap fixes which many shops could do in about an hour by cleaning or replacing the keyboard and fan. Fans are definitely cheap and most keyboards are cheap also. Would just be a matter of the shop having parts for your particular model. I know many might saw don't attempt to repair a laptop because its wouldn't be cost effective, but in many, many cases it is very cost effective and easy to do. And most shops won't charge you anything to determine the problem....they then give you a cost to repair and ask if you want to proceed...if you say yes then they repair it at that cost and give you a 90 day warranty...or at least that's the way it has worked for computer/electronic repair shops I've dealt with here in Bangkok.

Last year I saw a 19" Asus at IT City, but it was about 90,000 bt. At that size they're more a desktop replacement as they weigh at least 4kgs. Now 17" seems to be the largest size readily available, on display and in stock. For anything larger try IT City, an upmarket gaming shop or online like Alienware. Larger than this and what they want to sell you is an all-in one from Lenovo or HP.

Bought one in 2008, three busted batteries, flickering key backlight, burned it's HDD and finally a complete motherboard failure which ended up burning a USB logitech headset as well. Worst laptop ever, the stupid unibody design makes it run far too hot for Thai climate. Never again.

Dell, HP, Samsung all sell large aluminum brushed case 17 inch screen laptops that aren't gaming machines so slimline and not as bulky as the Alienware or as garish to look at.
