Crackdown On Phuket Garage Businesses

Phuket plans zoning for garages to tackle environmental issues.

PHUKET: -- In an attempt to tackle the environmental issues of noise and air emissions, garage businesses are planned to be zoned. During a press briefing, an official from the Phuket office of Industrial Works, Sompol Srochote said his office receives public complaints that garages or metal grill businesses cause noise pollution and sometimes emissions.

The office is now preparing to set zoning for this type of service, starting with new ones. The office is planning to develop designated locations as garage areas like in Choeng Thale of Thalang district or in Kathu. There are about 50 new operators he said. Currently there is private land of about 250 rai in Kathu offering leased land for factories. The financial institutes like SME or the Government Saving Bank will join in the program if activated he said.
