Ex-MP denies voting 'several times' on loan bill

BANGKOK: -- A former Pheu Thai MP accused of illegally voting to pass the Bt2trillion loan bill insisted the MP identification cards he used for the vote were all his, not those of his colleagues.

Former Democrat MP Rangsima Rodrasamee submitted a video clip of Narisorn Thongtirach who she alleged of voting several times by using a number of MPs' identification cards.

Rangsima said the clip was recorded during voting on the second reading of the law.

Narisorn told the Constitutional Court in a hearing that he was in the video but said he carried his MP identification card and spare (backup) cards as he often forgot his cards. He inserted the cards and changed them after his card failed to function.

The opposition told the Court that was not possible.

Democrat Party leader and former opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said what Narisorn had told the court was untrue. Each MP could have only one identification card and a spare card in case they forgot to bring or lost a card.

The spare cards also looked different from the main card and a new card issued would have a different serial number. Moreover, the machine would count only one vote for each MP using the card, Abhisit said.

The court on Tuesday began hearing legal arguments on whether the passage of the Bt2trillion loan bill was constitutional.

It started looking first into the passage of the bill process before examining the bill's content.

How refreshing to hear even a former Pheu Thai MP say that he's but human and forgetful. Mind you maybe not really the right material to make a good MP representing a constituency or just as general MP from the party list. He might even be likely to forget pre-election promises and the like

Guilty of Perjury before the court can include a little jail time, but you have to get them prior to the statue of limitation date.. Well that "little lie" seems to have been exposed as perjury, wonder what the rest of the copy cats will come up with?

When this group and their supporters try to use the judicial system to enforce their rules, while they ignore every rule of government, morality and social behavior, you kind of lose confidence in what Thai society is striving for.

What stage of Alzheimer's does he claim to have--if it's stage 2 or 3 is this really a person you would want in Parliament? How could he remember what the issues/facts were? Oh, I see ...you are told what to vote so none of the above really matters.

Probably not. If there were severe consequences for their behavior I bet fewer would want to continue doing what they do daily. Thailand, Lack of Sanctions (LOS). Hell if they could not steal there would probably be no or few politicians.

There are of course those who will believe Narisorn's incredulous explanation. Having said that, as jurisprudence tends to deem the incredulous in a slightly less favourable light, chances are the Constitutional Court will not be among them.

No, of course not. If he did it, kick him out along with all the other ratbags from the other parties who do similar things. A good clean up of Thai politics...great. But don't for a second think this is a unique case

Yes, unfortunately.

Why not immunity is waived.

5 years banishment is not enough.

Immoral and corrupt politicians have nothing to fear.

They do not have to lose something in this system.

They give a shit about their reputation, there main thing is true only the money.

This type of unethical people can be punished with harsh money penalties fines.

First, a hard check: all finances and assets.

Then check for plausibility: previous income / assets / tax declaration of last years.

Then at least fine them. Take half away there assets and put it in a fund for needy children and elderly.

Only that would bring deterrence.
