Children's Day celebrated nationwide; PM apologises for not hosting events at Govt House

BANGKOK: -- As parents and children nationwide yesterday celebrated National Children's Day with fun and games at state offices and other attractions, caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra apologised to children on her Facebook page for not hosting the celebration at Government House, saying it was out of concern for the safety and convenience of all.

Men arrested for drug deals in South

12 varsities to shut, defer exams
THE SUNDAY NATION

BANGKOK: -- TWELVE universities and colleges have said they will postpone exams or classes in order to handle the "Shutdown" from tomorrow, while 13 other universities were still making decisions, Higher Education Commission secretary-general Tossaporn Sirisampan said yesterday.

Chulalongkorn and Thammasat's Tha Phrachan campus will suspend classes until January 15; Srinakarin-wiroj will close for two days from tomorrow;

Silpakorn's Wang Tha Phra and Taling Chan campuses and Suan Sunandha Rajabhat will close tomorrow. Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep and Ramkhamhaeng have delayed exams; Pathumwan Institute of Technology, Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok's Chakrab-ongse campus, and Bangkok University will close for two days from tomorrow. University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and St Louis University will also suspend classes tomorrow, he said.

Medical workers split on political crisis

Man sought for killing boys and woman in Chon Buri

CHONBURI: -- Police have sought a warrant for the arrest of a 30-year-old man suspected of killing two boys and a woman aged 19 who was babysitting them early yesterday. They suspect the killings came from an alleged attempt to rape the girl and steal valuables in Bang Lamung in Chon Buri.

A savage attack on National Children’s Day has left one 17 year old woman and 2 boys one aged 2 and the other aged 7 brutally murdered by a sick jealous individual. Police believe the murders was due to boyfriend being jealous of his girlfriend working in a go-go bar in Pattaya..

SRT denies rumors of southern rail tracks closure to prevent protester joining PDRC

Opinion poll says Bangkok Shutdown will lead to political changes

BANGKOK: -- A substantial portion of people in Bangkok and its peripheries believe that the Bangkok Shutdown operation will lead to political changes but, at the same time, they want the protests to end quickly, said Suan Dusit Poll on Sunday.

The Suan Dusit Poll of Suan Dusit Rajabhat University conducted an opinion poll to gauge the opinions of 1,344 people living in Bangkok and its peripheries during January 9-11 about the shutdown which is due to start on Monday.

Regarding the shutdown, the poll results are as follows: 34.88 percent believe that incident will lead to political changes; 24.28 percent believe the incident will impact all Thais and all businesses; 21.85 percent believe that traffic in the capital will become paralysed that travelling will be impossible; 10.38 percent believe people have the right to join the protests but they must obey the law and 8.61 percent are concerned that the shutdown may lead to violence.

Asked how they are prepared to cope with the situation, the results are as follows: 31.23 percent said they accept whatever will happen; 23.68 percent said they would keep abreast with the situation through the media; 20.15 percent said they would have to spare more time for travelling due to traffic woes: 14.11 percent said they might take leave to join the protests; 10.83 percent said they would stock up food and water and prepared cash in hand.

Asked about what they will do on Monday; 28.55 percent said they would keep abreast with the situation through the media; 26.75 percent said that they would take leave; 21.01 percent said they would carry on with their normal life; 17.04 percent said they might join the protest or observe the protests.
