UN chief launches Thai mediation effort

Featured Replies

Good luck asking the stubborn boneheads Abhisit and Suthep to the negotiating table.

Instead the UN should just go ahead and send peace keeping troops.

Can they do that? I mean without asking permission from the Thai military or the caretaker P.M.

Yes they can do. But normally they will do this in a cooperation with the legally elected government. The army is a subdivision of the government, so there are no reason to ask them.

So he didn't speak with Suthep. Interesting - does that mean the UN doesn't recognise Suthep as a legitimate player in this?

The UN has been neutered a long time ago and represents no real power. Countries (even Western Nations, like the US), do whatever they want.

I guess, the UN chief, needs to speak up once in a while, to justify his huge paycheck rolleyes.gif.pagespeed.ce.hZ59UWKk-s.gif

What does UN stand for, again... Useless Nonsense? One can only laugh about this group of clowns.

How I hate Ban Ki Moon's smug face and annoying Korean accent.

And you are so proud to be a racist. Yours is the most pathetic posting I have read to date on this issue.

"I urge all involved to show restraint, avoid provocative acts and settle their differences peacefully, through dialogue," he said.

Gee, how original!

No he is just stating the obvious. The alternatives are just too awful to contemplate.

What standing does Suthep have that would warrant UN recognition? If Suthep wants recognition beyond being a street thug, then he should form a political party, develop a platform, and convince people to vote for him.

But for that matter, both of the recognized parties also need to tell the Thai people what they stand for and what they want to do for Thailand and the people of Thailand. What are all these reforms that no one will talk about. The biggest problem here is that no one outside Thailand takes any of these people seriously. And it is fast approaching the point where this is also true of the Thai people.
