Superstore assures goods supply sufficiency

BANGKOK, Jan 13 – Big C, one of Thailand’s superstores, has reaffirmed there is a sufficient supply of consumer products available during the Bangkok shutdown, starting today.

Somchart Soithong, Internal Trade Department director general, said after inspecting a Big C outlet at Saphan Kwai yesterday that the store managers assured that it would have enough supplies to last a month.

He said shoppers normally buy products on a weekly basis.

He said the Commerce Ministry had earlier asked the anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) to allow transport of goods to department stores to avoid supply shortages.

The PDRC agreed to cooperate, he said, calling on people to avoid hoarding goods to prevent shortage.

Apisit Pitiyanukroh, Big C senior manager for state relations, said outlets in the shutdown zones - Ratchdamri, Saphan Kwai and Rama IV – will be open as usual. (MCOT online news)

Welll, in Big C extra Pattaya today 70% of the freezers were empty, and I don't see this improve in the coming days given the situation.

Had thought of going there tomorrow. Your report doesn't sound encouraging. I'm pretty well stocked up and the freezer is about as full as can get,

but ...

I suspect, once again, the all important Pepsi Max situation will deteriorate ... just when it seemed distribution to Pattaya was improving slightly.

Is this a free advertising or the Big S(hit) has payed for it?

If they have paid much better to spend money for rent staff, cause if you have a small question you have to roam half an hour to find some-one in those special ugly green polo, I don't talk about an English speaker staff just talk a simple Thai, or they should spend for maintanance.

If you think I overstate pls visit their Lad Prao 1., Huamark, Suksawat, Samrong, Bang Plee, Samut Phrakan, Rangsit 2., Korat branches and you may smell well stink of mouse urine and may find mouse droppings on the shelves.

But there is a good news, they have found out the solution: in Fashion Island I have seen around six young cats to play in store area. I guess they use water closet to empty droppings.

Not finished yet.

If you would like to find huge cockroach, but really huge one, may visit their Lamlukka 1. and 2. branches and find them in grocery.

So I'm not worry at all, cause they have enough stock.

I want to stay away from the big C! I don't smoke, drink or stress about money or women. I eat antioxidant foods and do daily cardio and weights. Why would anyone want anything to do with anything Big C?

I don't know milk, water, coffee, rice, sugar, bread, eggs, condiments?

Google "big C" and see the all too real meaning. And water and condoms are the only good stuff on your list.

Sounds like the Saphan Kwai branch !!! sooner Tesco move close the better, then BIG C will have to buck their ideas up or go out of business!!

Interesting, because no problems in Bangkok. Yesterday, the wife and I did our normal weekly shopping at Tops, Big C and Villa (different things found different places), and it is business as usual. Same at the restaurants.

Probably, those that fled to Pattaya fearing the worst are stocking up there, but here in Bangkok, as it relates to food and water etc., we haven't seen any problems. Hence, if you are having problems finding things in Pattaya, come to Bangkok.

Big C Saphan Kwai is not one of their better stores, that's for sure. Large but very few customers whenever I've been there.

After reading this we went to the supermarket at the Food Court of Central. No evidence of any shortages or panic buying. Freezers full and plenty of fruit, vegetables, meat etc. Even got a case of Pepsi Max bottles without a problem.

A couple of days ago at Friendship it seemed there were more empty shelves than usual. Breakfast cereal in particular seemed hard hit. I guess the expat gourmands couldn't face the prospect of a morning without their muesli or Cocoa Puffs.
