PDRC vows it will not lay siege on SET, AEROTHAI, and BTS

BANGKOK, 14 Jan 2014 (NNT) - The People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) has affirmed that it will not lay siege on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (AEROTHAI), and other transportation hubs.

Mr. Akekanut Prompunt, spokesperson of the PDRC told the media that the residents residing in the vicinity of the rally sites have responded well to the rally, adding that it would continue its activities until the government steps down and moves ahead with the national reform before organizing the general election. He said the group's main strategy is to stage protests near the key government premises.

The spokesperson also stated that the PDRC would not seize the SET, AEROTHAI, airports, train stations, and the BTS sky train. He stressed that the PDRC would do whatever it could to reduce the effects of the rally on the Bangkok residents.

Peaceful protests slip, slip, slipping away. Threats to detain government ministers is also reassuring of 'peaceful' civil disobedience.

BANGKOK, Jan 14 - The anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) today gave assurances that they would not seize the airport, key transportation systems and the stock market, but would continue demonstrating to pressure caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to resign.

PDRC spokesman Akanat Promphan told a press briefing this morning that the "Bangkok Shutdown" has received positive feedback from the public.

He said the protesters today scattered to rally at some 10 state building compounds, while protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban is scheduled to visit his supporters in several rally sites including Lumpini Park, Asoke intersection, Ratchaprasong intersection and Lat Phrao 5-way intersection.

Mr Akanat said the PDRC will prolong its "Bangkok Shutdown" indefinitely until the caretaker government meets the group's demands, which are the resignation from the caretaker position and carrying out national reform before holding a general election.

Following reports that some anti-government protesters plan to seize the airport, the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand, the train stations, public transport system and the Stock Exchange of Thailand, the spokesman said the reports are groundless and the PDRC will never do so.

He reasoned that the PDRC wants the public to be least affected by its movement and give them other options for commuting.

If the PDRC allies decide to close the key transportation system, Mr Akanat said the group will negotiate with them that they will unlikely make any move which is beyond the PDRC resolution.

Mr Akanat also stood firm that the PDRC will not join Wednesday's talks as proposed by the caretaker premier regarding the election postponement, saying it is the duty of the Election Commission and the caretaker government to find a solution. (MCOT online news)

Maybe the PDRC won't take over these locations, but they didn't say that other organizations wouldn't :)

Take em all and speed this up to its obvious conclusion.

This reassurance underscores that the target of the protests is the Yingluck administration - not the people and businesses of Bangkok. Ironically, some businesses are actually doing brisk business as a result of the protests. When so many happy people are gathered together, they are often inclined to shop ! This protest is not going the way the administration hoped. But that is because of one factor - it's working. And it's working peacefully.

Korn says PDRC protesters will not block SET, Aeronautical Radio

BANGKOK: -- The People's Democratic Reform Committee will not lead protesters to block the operations of the Stock Exchange of Thailand and the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand, former Democrat MP Korn Chatikavanij said.

He posted a message on his Facebook wall that the PDRC had affirmed with him that it would not cause unnecessary hardship to the people and the private sector because the PDRC's targets are caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her Cabinet.

"But the threat made by NSPRT adviser Nitithorn Lumlua to shut down the operations of Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (Aerothai) to put more pressure on Yingluck to resign is totally different and uncalled for and could backfire badly on the entire protest movement.

"Strike where it hurts most" has been, and remains, a workable battle strategy throughout time. Hence, arms depots, railway stations, rail tracks and airports are invariably among targets bombed in war time, because that weakens the enemy's capability to wage war. Civilian casualties are conveniently papered over as "collateral damage

The NSPRT may well be free to do whatever it thinks fit, as the PDRC claims."

Above from the other English newspaper in Thailand.

I am Suthep and PDRC will not seize the airport or AeroThai.

But they have no control of NSPRT which are mostly student.

Since when students listen to audlt?

I thought the Democrats disavowed any association with the PDRC and vice-versa. Now Korn is speaking on behalf of the PDRC? Hard to keep track of the players without a program.

While he is at it, why doesn't PDRC Akanat identify exactly who within the PDRC it's allies must negotiate. I do think the PDRC could use some transparency in the way it operates and makes it's decisions on behalf of the people.

Better be on the alert than to believe these lawlessness people. They can surround government buildings as long as they like. works of the officers will carry on. The lawlessness PDRC has already broken the law and their leaders summoned to acknowledge charges. The show of restrain, patience and leniency by the government and law enforcement officers have prevented major clashes and bloodshed. If clashes and bloodshed do happen they are engineered by the DEM's PDRC hired gunmen, thugs and hooligans. They are also using foreign workers both legal and illegal. They are there waiting to strike.
