Police Captain Chirawat, a sub-Inspector at Pattaya’s Tourist Police Station and officer-in-charge of the Tourist Police Walking Street Unit was made aware of a foreign man posing as a Police Officer on Wednesday Night.

The man was spotted near the entrance to Walking Street and he was searched. The German man was wearing a Police utility belt and many items were attached to the belt. Two of the items concerned the Police Captain who decided to place the man under arrest. He was found to be carrying a set of handcuffs and a knife on the belt.

Mr. Michael Christian Henkel aged 40 from Berlin in Germany was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon in a public place and impersonating a Police Officer. He was transferred to Pattaya Police Station and received a fine of 400 Baht before being released with a stern warning not to carry these illegal items again.

:D:D

Not mentioning the fact that these "illegal items" are for sale about every 50 meters or so along Beach Road and Walking Street !

Not sure why anyone would try to impersonate a TPV though. Maybe insecure ? Maybe he thought that if he looked "official" nobody would hassle him ? Maybe hoping to get some "special" treatment from some of the people working down there ? :o

Understand what you are saying , but to impersonate a TPV is unacceptable. :D

Make him do community services around the city for the duration of his stay. :D

400 baht fine :o

That'll sure deter any others :D

Less than what he actually paid for the knife, cuffs and utility belt. :D

What is it with impersonating police officers here? I saw an overweight woman today on a scooter with a police sticker on it... Kids wearing POLICE t-shirts and jackets, guys with FBI and POLICE on the back window of their pick-up trucks...

"Understand what you are saying , but to impersonate a TPV is unacceptable."

Many would say being a TPV is unacceptable.

And while we are talking about wearing inappropriate insignia I have personally seen Howard of PCN and other wearing POLICE SWAT T-Shirts while on "Duty" at the entrance to WS

Since when were they members of Special Weapons and Tactics and surely that gives a total wrong impression of their powers to visitors who do not know the real deal?

I reckon digging into the background of some of these guys back home would reveal some juicy items!

In the case of the UK Volunteers do you think they would pass the CRB advanced disclosure check which is available for volunteers as well?

Let's stay out of discussing TPV - unless you want this thread closed. :o

WHY would he do that? The only logical answer is that he has some serious mental problems. He should be sent back home to have those problems dealt with.

What is the CRB?

The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), an Executive Agency of the Home Office, provides wider access to criminal record information through its Disclosure service. This service enables organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors to make safer recruitment decisions by identifying candidates who may be unsuitable for certain work, especially that involve children or vulnerable adults. The CRB was established under Part V of the Police Act 1997 and was launched in March 2002.

Prior to 2002, access to police checks was mainly confined to organisations in the statutory sector for staff who had ‘substantial unsupervised access’ to children. There were many other organisations that could not access these checks and yet had staff with similar access to vulnerable groups. The CRB enables many more organisations to access these checks as part of good recruitment practice.

Organisations wishing to use the service can ask successful job applicants to apply for one of two types of check. The type of check required will depend upon the nature of the position. These are called Enhanced and Standard Disclosures, both require a fee but are free of charge to volunteers.

Time to close this thread would have been a different story if thet had got a guy or 2 with explosives.

I think shows doing the job as best they can.

Look at the photograph - The guy was just an idiot with these stupid items on his belt. His tee shirt could in no way be confused with the TVP uniform.

Impersonator - My @rse!

Many Thai cars have a sticker on the rear window like "The Cop" or some similar crap. He might be inspired by that ;-)
