The Phuket Authority gets stricter on unlicensed hotels with safety as the main focus

PHUKET: -- Around 372 hotels and accommodation guest-houses out of 564 in Phuket are reported to be operating without licenses, according to the Phuket Provincial Authority's data. Among these, 150 are in Muang district, 195 in Kathu district and 27 are located in Thalang.

The authority has invited the operators for a seminar to explain about the Hotel Act BE 2547 expecting the operators to follow legal procedures and lead to international standards. The Phuket Vice Governor Worapote Ratasrima emphasized that from now on all hotel operators are required to strictly follow the regulations, especially on safety standards. He calls on all hotels to have close circuit TVs installed networking with Early Warning systems from the National Disaster Warning Centre as well as working with local administration bodies in beautifying or tidying up the front of their premises. These all gear up to increasing tourist confidence and satisfaction, he pointed out.
