Thai farmers to block all main roads across country tomorrow

Featured Replies

What a perfect time to fix all the bad potholes in all the major roads! With no stupid tire track through the wet cement too! Jumping to "scene III" we see that guy dressed in a toga holding a lantern, looking for an honest man.... "Power corrupts". Maybe future government positions should only be filled by persons who have little money and have never held a position of power before, with a maximum term of ONE MONTH, because that's how long it would take them to become corrupted.

If the rice farmers are broke now after not getting paid, then where is the money going to come from for their next crop? If the pledging scheme gets axed and the farmers have to sell at market prices again, they really are left in a desparate no win situation and will have to take a big financial hit. The only things of value are their offspring and their land. The young go working and send money home to support the parents. Money is borrowed at high interest rates against the land, risking loss of it if the debt can't be repaid or the land is sold. Once the land has gone, then what? Become slave labour to the new landowners? If not Yingluck/PT for these people then who else? Back in UK, small scale farming is on its knees. Farming subsidies are massive within the European Union as is the the skimming off the top so Thailand is not unique. Maybe they look to the west for the best ways of making a quick baht!
