Being here for 7 months we can't bring that much cash! 12000 baht a time is the most we're allowed to withdraw from an ATM in a day. On the one occasion we went to the teller and asked to withdraw 20000 baht, she just escorted us to the ATM (where we could only withdraw 12000). She just shrugged her shoulders and went back to her desk.

I had my bank in the states increase my limit so that at Bangkok Bank I am able to make 25,000 baht withdraws now. The one thing I did not like about aeon was the receipt did not show a balance.

Call your card company and ask for an increase on the card limit. That's who has your limit set at 12k baht not AEON or any other bank ATM machine.

Where are you from? If you are from Europe then just call your bank and ask them to raise your withdrawal limit. Your bank sets the limit; not AEON. When I used to use Maestro Card to withdraw from ATM's, my daily limit was 5,000 CHF or 180,000 THB appx. I tested it once and withdrew 70,000 THB in 24 hours; one transaction for 55K THB and then 15K THB about 9 hours later. Both at AEON Super Highway.

If you are American well then you are probably out of luck as the U.S. Nanny State doesn't want you doing stuff like that. I could be wrong but I suspect the same applies to citizens of the U.K. and Australia.

Unless you transfer a large sum, the fees for an international transfer are worse than the 150 charge.

Most of my cards allow Bt 40,000 a day but there are several Thai banks that limit withdrawals to Bt10,000 or Bt20,000 per transaction.

We use a credit card for our withdrawals (our debit card has HUGE charges!). Will our credit card company increase our withdrawal limit on request?

I just took a look at the Pattaya forum, because that place has a demographic that you'd think would get money from ATMs all the time.

If this was the case, I would assume it would be trending up and down Beach Road by now.

So far though: crickets.

And it's almost 3 PM, so the demographic would be out for breakfast by now.

if you use Bangkok bank, then have transfer done thru your bank to Bangkok bank thru the new york routing codes... then it appears in your Bangkok Bank acct here, with something like a 50 baht service charge (very small, at any rate) from the NY branch office... many expats (me included) been doing this for years

Some will but the only way you will know is to call them and ask. On your card you should have phone number. It is good 24 hours a day. Try it.

minimum fee fromm bkkbank is 200 thb, plus bkkbank ny takes 10 usd on amounts from 2000.01 to 50,000 usd.

The OP used a credit card......so it is considered a cash advance, with a whole different set of expensive fees.

Bkkbank will do a teller debit withdraw with the credit card machine; there is a 50 thb fee built in. The Aeon was broken in Phayao for a week last Summer, I was able to get 15000 with a master card debit card.

I was also charged 150 baht to withdraw 20,000 baht for the first time this morning at the Aeon branch in the Big C in Lampang.

I knew they would start charging sooner or later.

Whatever, it was nice while it lasted.

I have noticed over the past 2 years that the 150 baht fee comes and goes with AEON threw out Thailand. At times it may calculate to be only 80 baht but they do charge at times. FYI I only use an ATM card from a bank in the US not a credit card and by calling I can have limits increased with no problem. For the above reasons I do not go out of my way for an AEON but if it is close I'll use it.

This is to get money into your Thailand based Bangkok Bank account, routed through their US office.

Any bank account anywhere you can transfer money into. That's how banks do. ;)

The solution is simple - it just takes a few minutes longer. Just go into the bank with your passport & foreign credit/debit card & ask for a cash advance on your credit card. The trick is that the sum being requested must be higher than the ATM's usual maximum advance (THB 20,000?).

The bank does the paperwork, gets the authorisation, copies your passport (which you also sign) and the bank give you the cash. Best thing is that there's no fees! Not a single Baht & you get personalised service as part if the deal!

Go to Bangkok Bank at Kad Suan Kaew. Don't go inside the bank. Use the foreign currency counter on the outside.. Present your credit card and your passport and tell them how much you want to withdraw. They'll use a chip and pin machine and give you whatever cash you want as long as your CC will stand it.

that applies only to poor not so well-off people who consider 4,000 Dollars, 3,000 EURos or 2,400 Pounds a "large" sum.

the 50 thb fee dosn't appear as a line item; but it's there.

All relative. But I certainly would never consider belittling people over it. 1503456.GIF
