I am about to buy a new boat - around 28 to 30 feet and want to have a safe place to keep it. I do not want to keep on taking it out of the water so would welcome some advice on where I can moor it.

Most boats are moored in the Bang Rak / Plai Leam area. There are also some piers to dock a boat. It is a pretty sheltered place, but a few times per year you may have to move your boat because of unfavourable wind/wave direction.

We really need a marina on Samui.

Thong Krut has a sheltered sort of marina where they moor boats. It gives you good access to the marine park. A guy who may be able to assist is Jack from Samui boat. he has a shop near the traffic lights for Raja ferry and Nikki beach. On the left coming from Nathon. thumbsup.gif

I am based in Bang Por but anywhere on the island is fine by me as it does not take long to reach any point from here.

I have looked at Bang Rak area but it all seems so busy that there are very few vacant moorings.

I will have a look at Thong Krut - thank you

There is a large protected marina in Plai Leam. Turn left heading to Chong Mon at the Family ( I think) drive down & yu have to take one of the roads on the left. Tropicalevo might be able to help.

This is a protected channel.

You can also have a look at Ban Khao , it's before Tongkrut, head towards the seafood restaurant & ask there.

Some points to consider having decided on the area where you think you wish to moor it:

1. Is the area sheltered for at least 80% of the year? (My mooring is at Ban Rak and when the N.W. winds come through I bring her out of the water).

2. you will need easy access to a ramp to bring the boat out of the water. (Not available at Plai Lam).

3.Easy Fuel delivery

4. Water for cleaning etc.You will need to wash down the boat and rinse the engines after every trip.

5.access to a vehicle to tow the boat

6.a good galvanised trailer

7. Security is always a difficult area, so if you have a loose mooring you will need to consider an alarm.

8. Look at the insurance conditions, a loose mooring may not be acceptable.

9. Mooring on a pier needs careful consideration due to tidal flows and the wash from passing ferries(I have a 33 ft cruiser and take it out of the water as soon as WindGuru shows bad weather on the way. Also it is really useful to have an arrangement to bring the boat out of the water at very short notice).

Good Luck!

Heading from Bophut towards Big Buddha.

After BB the road bends to the right and you come to a left turn. FamilyMart and 7/11 on the corners (of course).

Turn left (Soi Thongsai)

A few hundred meters on the left - Deva Resort. Turn left immediately after Deva Resort.

This is an ideal location weather wise but last time I looked there was no ramp. Couldn't see any water or fuel faciliites either.

Also there doesn't seem to be any security and is easly accessible to anyone wandering around. The area is also shared by fishing boats.

Soi 3 Plai Laem a nice sheltered marina, but no ramp or refuelling facilities, there is security.
