Clapton cancels Bangkok show

BANGKOK: -- Due to the political unrest in Bangkok, British guitar hero Eric Clapton has cancelled his March 2 concert in the capital, promoter BEC Tero Entertainment announced today.

Interest had been keen in "Eric Clapton Live in Bangkok 2014" at Impact Arena because Clapton has hinted that this might be his final world tour. He told an audience in Japan that he's getting too old to be trekking around the world. At 68 he'd prefer to spend more time with his family.

Nevertheless, there's still a chance his Thai fans will see him again sometime. "I hope to return Bangkok in the future," Bec Tero quoted Clapton as saying in an email.

Refunds are available from www.ThaiTicketMajor.com and (02) 262 3838.

Boring Eric, I remember when Rory Gallagher would play in Belfast at the height of the troubles there

.Perhaps we need Bob Geldof to start a Farmers Aid concert or Rock Against Violence.

It might make an impact if they publish how much MONEY the Thai economy will lose because of this (and other) cancellations.

What a shame that money is THE motivator in Thailand unfortunately.

only reason he cancelled is because he had little interest in playing here in the first place and jumped at the easy out.

Perhaps some were born with more brains, Eric perhaps.....................coffee1.gif[/quo

Rory was Catholic but the Protestants loved him too, a wonderful rock blues guitarist full of passion and ability.

Eric's a great guitarist, he wrote some superb songs with Cream and later solo in the early 70's too but he shouldn't cancel a concert due to some idiot launching a grenade at Big C, have some guts man, like the black blues guitarists he once emulated,

Yeh, sure if I was him I would come here too........rolleyes.gif

....I would go play where my head was cool and enjoy. NOT be in the atmosphere of numb nuts with no police control.

Bands like these moving on world tours will be insured for very high sums, both for performers and their equipment. They will be jeopardising the cover and insurers will not agree.

Only an Irishman who dresses in ladies underwear over a clown suit could draw a comparison between those three.

Clapton is God

Loved Cream, loved his D&TDs stuff, since then nothing I consider worth listening to.

Clapton screwed up when he ditched the Gibson, since then his tone has gone to shit.

Rory Gallagher is Gawd.

Everyone loved Rory, best goddam guitarist I ever saw.

No BS with Rory, no poncy lightshows, no distracting dancers, no fillers, just straight forward blues/rock.

Check it out,

Clapped out couldnt lace Rorys boots.

Wise move Eric...would not want you blown up by some numpty throwing a grenade in the wrong direction..

Concur 100%.

Considering the proximity of Impact Muang Thong Thani to the ChaengWattana protest area, it is a prudent move.

Neither side will care about the cancellation of course, but it is another example of the changing reputation of the city from relaxed, anything goes, fun town that attracts a few big names like Eric Clapton to a mini Damascus.....

"Gilmore - best guitar solo ever" - whoever wrote that has never seen/heard any footage of SRV - RIP, the greatest, even Eric admitted it.

By the way, saw Rory in 79 in Munich, he did 2 nights at a 3000 capacity standing only gig. He was so good, i went and saw him again the following night. Those years i lived in Munich 79-82 were glory glory gig years. AC/DC with Bon Scott, last ever but one Led Zep gig, ZZ Top before they became silly, Thin Lizzy, Alvin Lee and TYA, etc etc.

^^^^^, personally I enjoy this, Warren shreds that slide, then Dickie steps up and tears up that solo.

Epic.

Very disappointed, missed him in 2011 and was hoping to see him this time. But got to see Santana both in 2011 and 2013 here in BKK.

Speaking of:.. two of the greatest ever:
