Shell station hit by M79 grenade



BANGKOK: -- Perpetrator fired a M79 grenade into the anti-government protest site on Chaengwattana road last night but missed. The grenade landed at a Shell petroleum station and exploded.

The latest M 79 attack at anti-government protest site held by Luang Poo Buddha-issara happened at about 10.00 p.m.

Guards at the protest site reported a loud explosion at the petrol station which is opposite the TOT Plc head office and immediately alerted soldiers near the area giving protection to demonstrators.

The petroleum station ceased service since the protesters started to lay siege to Chaengwattana road.

One hour later, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Thung Song Hong police arrived to inspect the scene.

EOD said they found shrapnel of the bomb which was a M79 grenade similar to the type used in the attack at Lat Prao, Criminal Court, ThaiPBS, and CMPO.

I don't remember the exact official military nomenclature, but we all knew it as simply "the M-79".

As in,, "lob a couple of M-79 rounds in there to see what happens".

Sometimes when you did that all h_ll broke loose.

Fortunately these dudes are not well trained at using it (judging from their results) or just harassing people.

Seems as if it's a calculated act to ensure that any conflagration and resultant explosions are maximized to achieve horrendous results.

Similar tactics as before by the Red Shirts by than parking L.P.G. and natural gas tankers outside apartment and as such endangering innocent lives.

The then police farce force did nothing, as a result of the police farce force inaction the locals acted very efficiently in removing the danger in a very rapid and emphatic manner and Red Shirt members were indeed vanquished quickly.

Technically of course you are correct. But don't you suppose that the police EOD people really know this? Can't this just be an easy way of explaining to the public, who don't know and don't care, the general kind of explosive used versus a technical explanation?
