Army chief backs talks between govt and protesters

BANGKOK, 1 March 2014 (NNT) – Army Chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha has voiced his strong support for talks between all sides involved in the current political deadlock that has gripped the country for the past 8 years.

If the talk between the government and the protesters were to take place, it should be carried out under the country’s legal framework and that all sides must get involved in the process to seek peaceful solutions to the crisis,Gen Prayuth said.

He also dismissed rumors of his becoming a neutral prime minister, saying it is a far-fetched idea for one to be thinking about.

As for a coup d’etat, the army chief said he could not promise anything; however, he affirmed that the military would try its best to avoid it.

He also condemned the use of M79 grenades in a spate of violent incidents, warning the perpetrators that they will definitely face the music.

CIC Gen Prayuth has sent the right message , he's continued stance on the political situation is a responsible one, something that both major political parties are lacking, the main area of concern is these grenade attacks , there seems to be an over abundance of them to toss around, as for the rumours of a coup , General Prayuth knows full well that to watch the country fall into civil war would be a dereliction of duty , others would have made the call for military control.

We are not privy to whatever comments may have been made behind closed doors nor who might and may still be involved concerning the current situation in Thailand. However there at last seems to be some easing of tension and let us hope a step forward to a somewhat less corrupt government.

The interesting point will be to see just how the Red Shirt faction along with its associated allies might actually react to the withdrawal and the partial cessation of the majority of the P.R.D.C. activities.

A claim of victory from and faction would indeed be a move calculated to inflame the situation again, the Thai people have tasted what their power can do and they will not stay a silent majority again if a resurgence of Shinwatra power were to happen.

This moment in time is going to be the make or break time for all parties but more importantly make or break for Thailand and its peoples.

Those peoples include my children and grandchildren as is the situation with a good many other foreigners who post on this board too.

The future belongs to our children, it is also our future albeit in a limited time we and they need the current generation to hand them a secure less corrupt future where the politicians are the public's servants not the other way around.

Let us hope that common sense and honesty will prevail.If not all will be lost

Some may knock this, but considering how similar events have transpired in the Ukraine, I think the authorities have handled this situation extremely well. Hopefully this dispute will be resolved soon.

I was going to point to that also, it seems there will be a just Democratic solution to the problem like should have been attempted before polarizing the country to the verge of violence and the General knows what will result from a "judicial coup" and the picture is not a pleasant one!
