Another option is a pickup. I got a 12 year old 4 door diesel for 180,000 baht. Every service done as required, and only covered 120k km. So engine (Mazda 2.5l) probably has another 300,000 km with routine maintenance. Like new inside and outside. Diesel costs 30 baht per litre, so while thirstier than an Eco car is about the same price to run.

Main drawback is the size if you live in the city. But I f you travel outside the city on crap roads, you'll love the tough suspension and chassis. Built to last.
