Pattaya Student arrested in Russian Bag Snatch case from North Pattaya



PATTAYA: -- An 18 year old student was arrested and a 15 year old accomplice was able to escape following a bag snatch from a Russian Tourist in the Naklua area on Thursday morning.

Police were alerted to the incident which occurred in Soi 14/1 off the Naklua Road just after 10am by passers-by who were able to assist Mr. Aleksandr Leontev and Mrs. Chaizada Leonteva in detaining the 18 year old student who was riding as passenger on a motorbike driven by his 15 year old friend who was able to escape.

The suspect was accused of stealing a shoulder bag belonging to the Russian female, which contained 2,000 Euros, a Mobile Phone and an assortment of personal documents. The couple were walking from their Hotel to the main road where they intended to get a taxi to Jomtien Beach, when the bag snatch occurred.

Interestingly, if you read the forum Corruption is 'part of Thai mindset' you will find a posting from Femi Fan who believes it is ok for students not to pay back their loans. So, would that mean that this young man was just doing it solely for monetary gain; or is it a race crime? Did he know they were Russians beforehand? Did he not realise that 90% of all Russians in Thailand are part of the Mafia (allegedly!)?

I think there might be more to this than meets the eye and Thai Visa Forums should continue to report on this shocking event.
