Democrats want inquiry into govt 'support' for calls for separate state

BANGKOK: -- The Democrat Party has petitioned the national anti-graft agency, calling on it to investigate the prime minister, two Cabinet ministers and 10 red-shirt leaders for rebellion over calls for a separate state in the North.

Wirat Kalayasiri, who heads the party's legal team, said yesterday he had asked the National Anti-Corruption Commission to probe Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Interior Minister Charupong Ruangsuwan and Deputy Commerce Minister Natthawut Saikua.

The 10 red-shirt leaders include Jatuporn Prompan and Veerakan Musigapong.

Wirat accused the 13 of rebellion for supporting secession from the country.

The idea of partitioning parts of the country was raised at a recent red-shirt meeting and in some provinces where the red-shirt movement is strong.

Wirat alleged that Charupong and Natthawut were present at the red-shirt meeting, with the interior minister even promising government support to implement all proposals by the red shirts.

Some red-shirt leaders proposed the use of violence and suggested there needed to be an armed struggle against anti-government protesters.

Meanwhile, Royal Thai Air Force Commander-in-Chief ACM Prajin Juntong said that the RTAF was considering filing a police complaint against red-shirt leader Wuthipong "Ko Tee" Kotthammakhun for allegedly being behind the display of banners with messages calling for secession.

The banners were displayed at locations such as pedestrian flyovers in Don Muang in Bangkok, an area under the jurisdiction of the RTAF.

Earlier this week, the Army filed a separate police complaint in Chiang Mai and Lamphun against red-shirt leaders who allegedly support a proposal to create a Lanna state in the North.

Wuthipong and his lawyer met yesterday with Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol Lt-General Camronvit Toopkrajank.

He admitted to having banners displayed because he believed that the red shirts were treated unfairly.

Ko Tee said that Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha had ordered legal action against the red shirts while doing nothing against the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee.

In Chiang Mai yesterday, RTAF officer Wing Commander Poramet Siritanont, at an order from the commander of Wing 41, filed a complaint with Mae Ping Police against red-shirt leader Petchawat Wattanapongsirikul for allegedly supporting secession.

Petchawat said that his local chapter of the red shirts had been planning a so-called Democratic Republic of Lanna for more than six months.

How many partitions can we file in one week , there is enough partitions filed from the commanders of the military , why are the Democrats jumping on the band wagon , the democrats have been sorely lacking in being at the forefront in the need for a better Thailand recently , leaving the protest movement up to Suthep and Co, for a political party that boycott's elections ,remains low keyed in the protest support arena , been out of the picture for weeks , they have some explaining to do.sad.png

How many times a week ???? For every step one takes, the other wants to go to court.

Suthep and the Dems will never win and they know, so now the only way is to file court cases, ask for arrests, etc...

The first one with an arrest warrant was/is Suthep, so please get him to court first, after that there is a possibility people would start to get confident in court and law again.

best way to go IMO , if you dont get on with your room mate , get your own room , autonomy is pretty popular in western democratic countries ATM , ,.....better to divorce if you cant live together ............def aint worth dying for, .. the only ppl that would benefit from it would be the rich elite , who would be the last to the same themselves , always has been like that ,................ALWAYS WILL BE !.

Not necessarily the best way to go, the proposers of the secession movement of the North to create a Lanna State see it as their best way, but the opposers do not want it because they do not regard it as the best way ...

Secession actions created a civil war in America which started 1861/1865 due to the fact that seven Southern States created secession in order to withdraw the Southern States from the Federal Union of America.

The civil war then started, 600,000 soldiers died, plus massive injuries and heavy damages to properties, as a result the Southern State secession was ended and the entire US states are and remain part of the Federal Union of America which is the top global country.

Due to the recent disaster caused by political street protests in BKK Thailand will now try to peacefully deal with their political problems and secession might and should not take place, and Thailand will remain a top S.E. Asian country.

Ex-interior minister Charupong's statement of support for the UDD platform at the UDD rally - which included secession - and Ko Tee's deliberate baiting of Prayuth - are the clearest examples of defiance in the development of this unconstitutional and dangerous movement. Although Prayuth has already filed charges with the police, the police of course are doing nothing about it. Because the police and the former Yingluck administration are doing nothing about it, let alone not even acknowledging the movement exists - Ko Tee is emboldened, and so the movement strengthens. This is a very dangerous set of developments, and they coincide with Pheu Thai's final push against the judicial system, with the filing of impeachment charges on members of the Constitutional Court and the NACC. Of all the warning signs, these are the strongest. And they are happening at the same time. The courts are empowered to enforce the constitution. But if they are stopped or removed, only the army can defend them, and by extension society itself.

Looks like charges are starting to be filed against YL and her government several times daily.

How many cases are they now facing?

This has got to be a world record and still they cling to power.

Only in Thailand.

Guess they think if they throw enough mud then some will stick,

They are trying for Y/L to be arrested in support of the secession, I was just wondering how they can get around the multiple times she has stated that there is no possibility for this, so I guess they have a lot more video of her supporting and calling on a separate state and can produce it and if so that then would give enough evidence to have an arrest warrant for her, but no evidence in support, then what? eerrr judge we just think she want's it ,, umm we just want power, errr we can't win an election so we have to steal power like last time, and no we don't respect the people or their vote, will that be ok? and what colour do you what your new merc?whistling.gif

After all these months of the anti-government protests, it would be SO IRONIC if it was the Red Shirts that toppled the Shin Dynasty!

With disgruntled Northern farmers as their co-assistants!!!

"Petchawat said that his local chapter of the red shirts had been planning a so-called Democratic Republic of Lanna for more than six months."

Chapter as in Hells Angels?

Well it's unlikely to be chapter as in a book.

Most Thais don't read them.

The DP has fallen for the secession bait hook line and sinker and so have the royalist media - you too. Got your attention, didn't they, the reds up north. Do you really believe the reds would or could organize an 800,000 member militia, or want to secede? Secession would be so radical and extreme that only extreme radicals would seriously consider it. While there are extreme radicals on each side, the extreme radicals predominate on the DP and old guard side, not to mention at TVF.

Prayuth filed pro forma charges then backed off. Gen Prayuth and his generation of commanders across the armed forces know a coup or military intervention would do more to destroy the country than could anything or anyone else. Prayuth and his commanders recognize that their coup written and imposed 2007 constitution is not accepted throughout the land and that it in itself is a divisive force and factor. Gen Prayuth is trying to project calm and self-restraint whilst others to include certain TVF posters lose their heads. .

Great post, The Army realizes the real threat to the country and further hatred as been the hallmark of the PDRC will cause unbelievable devastation to the country and the class division will last a lot longer then the ill effects of the 2006 coup, I see the military coming out on the only side that offers a lasting solution, that is am election where all will have their say at the ballot box.

It seems like the Army will throw its weight behind a just solution, as they know antagonizing the majority of the population is not the road to a lasting peace for Thailand!

Cheers

'Take it to parliament'

Great idea - only the government was dissolved a couple of months ago and so this could be a little problematic!!!!

What's the point taking it up in parliament???

Do you remember when there was a heated debate and the Democrats weren't allowed to speak. Instead riot police were called in to remove them.
