There must be at least a few others. Anyone?

Why you asking?

And are you talking about real names or nicknames?

Supaporn is a girl's name that sounds like something 'farang', but I wouldn't wish it on my child :o

Mallee is a brand of thai fruit juice...the type that's got the 'pulp' in it...

there was an old R&B song from the 50s that went

'Now when she walk...

Mallee she got the pulp...'

I used to teach a kid called Tittiporn. So what you getting at OP? Don't you know that Thais have nicknames? Male or female?

Nick names would be the appropriate - their real names are well rather Thai. :o

Malinee is also another variation and can be an actually first name,

(derived from a popular Indian actress in Bollywood), :o

Why you asking?
Why not, some law against it?
And are you talking about real names or nicknames?
More likely nicknames, as I thought was apparent.

Need there be something to get at beyond the question at face value?
Don't you know that Thais have nicknames?
Yes I do.
Male or female?
Please check the thread title again. Thanks!

Needs to get out more then!
And you say that based on what, that you think I don't know Thais have nicknames? And how did you conclude that?

Yes, those were the examples I gave, mostly. Sorry for not explicitly spelling it out.

Thanks for that. I was thinking when I typed 'Mallee' that I might not have it quite right.

Mali means jasmine.

Also Marisa and Kanika are nice names that translate well into farangistan :o

When I was in high school I had a friend from Thailand and when, at the beginning of the school year, the teacher reached her name on the list we always knew "La...... La....." and she would raise her hand and say "just call me Laura" :D

(Nong) Natt :D sounds english to me

bet JaiDee would agree :o

Explorer :D

There are two girl's names that can sound like Molly: Mali and Malee. As pointed out earlier the first means Jasmine. This was has the short sara (vowel) 'e' so isn't so close to Molly, but the second one is spelled with the long 'e' so sounds very similar to Molly. Malee is my wife's name. I think it is another kind of flower. I used to know, but have forgotten. Good thing she doesn't visit the forum. :o

Off the top of my head ...

Benz, Mint, Nat, Bell, Sara, Grace, Bambi, Val, Jane, Gay, Jenny, Chris, Gena, Ann, Brenda, Nina, Noon ...

If you are planning to live in the west, you want to steer clear of

anything with Tit, Porn, Pee, Poo and Bum in it. :o

Other kids can be very cruel.

I was once married to a girl name Pornthip (blessing from heaven--literal translation). When we moved to the US she was pretty upset to learn what Porn meant. I specifically remember a downtown neigborhood where we lived that had some signs posted saying 'Porn not Welcome', etc. Poor thing. After we separated she legally changed her name to Antoinette!

I would add the name Sukanya to the list of names that don't translate well. When pronounced correctly as a Thai would no problem. As pronounced by farangs it can sound like a rude request.

My fav. niece, May,

and my wife, (a hairdresser), Nit, which was soon changed to Nid after arrival in U.K!
