Loy Kroh Police Razzia

Anyone got caught with no passport or fake passport? ;)

Guess not as most TV people are at home on a Friday night.

But it was quite a sight. Was more for show than anything else by the looks of it. Took forever before they finally made it over to where I was (girl on lap, big smile), and then they were fine with my divers license.

They left restaurants and some bars alone, but checked others as well as some massage shops.

So, good. Otherwise there'd be nothing going on.

Seriously though, my money is on the reggae bars getting a visit later. So best to have a passport (copy) and no herbs & smarties.

Really, a quiet Friday night on Loi Kroh? Darn, quiet nights are the best time to go, and I'm busy tonight!

Came to me as well while is was enjoying a beer or 2.

The officer didn't even knew that passport numbers are on the driver licence.

More of a show in my opinion but intimidating for the tourist which is not good.

Neither of my passport numbers are on my driving licence, what country is your licence issued in?

If you have a Thai dl either a 1 year or a 5 year as a foreigner your passport number is on your Thai dl but NOT your visa status.

I carry a color copy, slightly larger than business card size, plastic covered copy of my passport in my wallet. First thing you see when you open it. I've used that on countless occasions, and never had a problem with it being accepted.

Edit for type

Did she take your tablet to the photocopier.....as they normally do?

busy doing nothing, working the whole day through, trying to think of lots of things not to do.

Thai Driver's Licence contains passport number.

But if you are from a country that issues a different passport number with each passport, then the number may not be correct.

May I suggest the posting of random off-topic thoughts on Thaivisa be another thing for you not to do?

Yeah they spoke with me. I didn't have a passport or a copy and no Thai ID.

Had an Aussie licence. Once he saw it was Aussie he said "oh Aussie , no problem. Aussie people are good"

They were very friendly and in no way intimidating.

Holy crap, another 7-11 !!

The police guys stopped friends of mine who are visiting - apparently they were from Bangkok not CM police

Didn't seem to have a problem with Brits and Aussies, so we can presume not what they were looking for.

I got quizzed and photographed. No passport but they were happy with my Thai DL. They were taking lots of photos also of other non-Thais. They then themselves turned into tourists taking photos of themselves in front of the boxing ring on loi kroh.

I asked them what it was all about, they said Malaysian Airlines.

Presume they are specifically looking for Iranians. Yesterday was Nooruz the Persian/Iranian New Year celebration and they should hang out at every Persian restaurant along with enjoying the Chello Kababs.

A bit of a stab in the dark here, but could it be that Bombs were going off last night?

I hate to be pedantic, but! 'salubrious red light district' that has to be one of the best oxymorons ever! especially when applied to Loi Kroi.

But I love your sentiment

I can't help but wonder whether you two are related by any chance!

This just arrived in my inbox from my consulate:

Friday March 21, between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. unidentified persons threw explosive devices at several locations in the greater Chiang Mai area—including a gas station, a restaurant parking lot, and an office building—resulting in four injuries. The attacks occurred in Nong Hoi, Muang district; tambon Yang Nerng, Sarapee; and tambon Pa Dad, Chiang Mai city, respectively. Thai authorities are investigating.
