Wow! What a great city!

forget the map on this forum, this city is as big as Leeds City Centre at least. if you from the States I'd compare it with Chicago for size. the map here shows about 10 streets. forget that, this is a BIG place.

From Big C on route 12 to the Mall on Route 2 (Mittrapapt??) is 50bht in a tuk tuk

Korat Hotel is nice but next door to as great club called Speed 2 so you'll hear bass pumping out till 2am (ish) The std Kingsize is 600bht without breakfast (which you can get on any street corner for 25bht).

A NICE two room apartment furnished with TV, Big Bed, dresser, Wardrobe, proper Toilet and two balconys. cost 4500 bht a month with a month deposit. add 400bht for wifi internet.

the same but in one room cost 3500 plus wifi.

Add 1000bht max a month for power due to the air con being on when you are home at night.

Clubs here are not the same as basck home. Live acts throughout the night doing covers of largely US and UK artists. Some really good asian lookalikes and great dance routines.

In the mall you can buy coupons for the food mall and I dare you to spend more than 50bht and be able to eat it all. VALUE IS OUT OF THIS WORLD.

Tuk Tuk from Korat Hotel to the mall. 50-60bht. to Big C, 50bht.

Kang Plaza is like marshall fields (USA Ref) or Selfridges (UK ref) if you like department stores then the mall and the new Kang plaza will be your tipple.

SOME banks want a work permit to open an account but Siam Bank branch in the Big C will let you open with passport (with visa) and thai address. they are lovely ladies and for 300bht they will give you your acount book and atm card on the spot with a pin of your choosing! How great is that?

The people are so friendly, forget the horror stories of BKK... that does not apply here. You'd have to be pretty dumb to be taken for a ride here.

The girls are beautiful. simple as. if you are in town and you go more than 30 seconds without seeing a really hot girl, get your glasses checked. I am VERY picky (according to my new thai and expat friends) and I see 6s and 7s out of ten with alarming regularity.

There are nice girls here and I hope everyone would treat them as such not as bar girls in bangkok.

The heat is huge but if you time it right and avoid the mid day sun then you'll be fine. YOU WILL NEVER NEED A JACKET!! I packed two and think I should burn them...

Get a brolly! for both the sun and the rain. I got one free with my bank account.

talk to the folks on here, they know there sh7t!

Thats all I can think of for now, hope it helps.

Thanks for the heads up. I work on this principle ALWAYS:

Nothing is as it seems. Everything is a Test.

I can tell when I am being ripped and I'm getting an idea of by how much now too. Its a learning curve. I don't mind picking things upp by trail and error on a small scale.

But take a look at my truck post and you'll see that I'm not going out of my way to look like an easy mark.

With enthusiasm like yours why did you not send an apology if you were unable to come to the first meeting of the Korat Expats Club?

Maybe one of the "quorum" meeting on the 24th could suggest you be co-opted.

Anyway, once you get your feet under the table I am sure you will want to be an active member.

KK,

belated apologies already sent. wasn't online till saturday morning with any regularity. feel like I just had my legs slapped in school!

Anyway... If I'm not on a school trim or having my back sack and crack waxed, I'll give the 24th a whirl.

Cheers,

Loz
