I was waiting at a bus stop on Wulai Rd yesterday morning when a large yellow bag fell off a passing garbage truck. A young man on a scooter was following not far behind and had to break heavily and swerve to miss the bag. Meanwhile the truck pulled up 50m down the road. Did the young man hurl abuse at the garbos for nearly upending him. Nope. He leant down and picked up the bag which was filled with aluminium cans and carried it down to the truck to save the garbos the walk. Gotta love this place - I do.

Today up at Wat Umong, I enjoyed having a chat with the lady in the wheelchair that sells bread for the catfish ( as well as snacks for the people). She's been there for years, and she's a total sweetheart. Always remembers me. She and her co-worker always take the time to say hi and ask what I've been up to. The wind storm from yesterday was the big subject to talk about, however. I enjoy how so many people here are just willing to shoot the breeze, say hi, and connect. It's part of Thainess that is getting rarer by the day, and it's also part of the small-town feel of CM that I love.

Yes, the small things make it nice.

I had a nice fruit seller teach me Thai this evening. smile.png

Every night, before I go to bed, I think about the day's "Serendipity Moment" I realized when I first came here life in Thailand is full of these moments -- the unexpected, small pleasant surprises that make life fun. I've told myself that if it ever gets to the point that I have many days without Serendipity Moments then it's time to leave Thailand.

And yes, as the city gets bigger, and there's more traffic, and I sense more Thai people are stressed with debt and uncertainty about the future of their country -- I must admit that some days it's difficult to come up with a Serendipity Moment.

I have found in my time in Thailand that a smile will be returned with a smile 98% of the time from the young and old where as in the western society you sometimes get a look that says what the <deleted>%k are you smiling at

While we are on the topic.

It occurred to me that with all the pictures you take Dave you must have had some experiences both good and bad. Was there any in particular that stand out in your mind?

I know there are some places where they have no photographs please posted.

Not sure what that is all about. Maybe superstition.

If this rule was applied across the Thaivisa forums, I reckon 90% of posts would be removed.

Interestingly, I made this comment last night and this morning I find my post has been removed. Can someone quote which rule I broke please?

I think that is what it boils down to, attitude. I find the majority of Thais extremely friendly and helpful and at times do not understand the constant Thai bashing that goes on at times. Note: I am talking about individual people, not institutions, government schemes, or politics.

Totally agree, no matter where i am in 'Thailand'' if i smile at someone or someone smiles at me, its always pleasant..

But, back home, its the opposite,

It costs nothing to smile at someone, or acknowledge someones gesture..

Life is short... don't read into things too much...

Enjoy..... Life.....
